13. I suspect McCain will be exposed for where he stands
some time in 2010 or 2011.

3. Obama's numbers will improve there when West Virginians begin to hear that he won the nomination.
It'll take a couple weeks.

34. I suppose the Pony Express still runs there?
I must assume that's what you meant by taking a couple of weeks?

4. What can you say, It's West Virginia
After seeing the comments from West Virginians and the general demographic of the state, this is expected.

When Obama makes a few stops and people actually get to hear him compared to the old man, it might change.

7. How much time have you spent in West Virginia?
Have you ever so much as talked to a person from anywhere in this great state? If you had you would know that your comment was not only offensive it was assinine.

Just what in hell do you think the 'demographic' of this state is?

16. Not from Cleveland but...
And guys, I am know that the whole state isn't as they tag.
I have met several people from West Virginia that in no way fit the stereotype.
And I must admit, WV is one of the more beautiful states but then I love mountains when I am not sliding down them in a 3000 lb automobile as I have. (I drive through WV 4 or more times a year)

I lived in Missouri for years and the Arkansas joke are the same ones the Cleveland natives tell about West Virgina only the name of the state is changed.

The reason I base those numbers as they are is mostly the majority of WV natives that I have meet who are as redneck conservative as they come.
Still you have Robert Byrd who defies the red state tag WV has had for so long.

I honestly think and hope that you all can turn it blue this year.

Peace!

22. Actually the state is already quite blue.
Our governor is a Democrat, as is our entire US Congressional delegation, with one exception. And we plan to change that exception to blue this November.

If we could set aside the animosity for a moment, there is some good news here. A February 28 SurveyUSA poll put Obama at 35% and McCain at 53% in WV. With the Rasmussen poll now reporting 37%/45%, we're looking at a margin of only 8%.

9. My immediate boss is from WV. And this does not surprise me
a bit. She calls the guys out on the production floor 'those people' never caring that if it wasn't for 'those people' there would be no reason for her existence at this place. They provide the labor that keeps this dump running.

She voted for bush** twice. If she's a sample of what comes out of WVA, forget that state.

I made and one that I will NEVER, not EVER make again. And the two that I've known that left the state and ended up here (which is no liberal paradise) brought all their nasty little prejudices and bigotries with them, reminding me of why I was so unhappy and uncomfortable the entire time, which was only a matter of days, that I was there.

32. So Says The Person....
who has never stepped foot in Morgantown. I would never pretend to know the political leanings of all of the students at WVU. I'll leave that to you. As a person who has spent alot of time in Morgantown, I would guess the majority of the students are progressive in their values and their politics. Hell, you don't get voted the number one party school in the country by being a bunch of Young Republicans.

12. Well, Bush "beat" Kerry by 13% in '04 in WV, so this has to be looked at
optimistically! Given the numbers coming out of the primary, some people were suggesting that the number of potential Obama voters could fit in a phone booth...

23. I agree.
The WV margin now looks better than it does in many other states.

I believe we'll go for Obama in November. We voted for Bill Clinton twice.

The national trend will continue to improve, as we put the long Primary more behind us.

15. My mother was born in WV....
And was raised by painfully conservative parents. Then she went to Brown University (where she met my dad) and harvard Law School. She became one of the smartest liberals on the planet, as did my uncle (her younger brother). :patriot:

24. from that poll - this is very hopeful!
"Just 12% of West Virginia voters believe that the federal government represents the will of the people while 76% say it does not. These figures are similar to the national average. Seventy percent (70%) say the federal government has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interests."

Hmmmm - That says big change to me :)
