I've heard that Rudy might run for Governor or Senate whichever becomes available first. Upstate New Yorkers could lean towards Rudy since they're generally more conservative. The State Dem Party must already be thinking about this.

Although I was born and raised in NYC it's been over 30 years since I lived in my home state. I don't have a clue about what bright lights are rising in the Party back there. We certainly need to increase our Senate number to 60 without Joe Lieberman included in the number.

1. Patterson would still appoint a Senator to fill out her term.

3. Great!
I wasn't aware of the rules about special elections or not. This gives the appointee plenty of time to become the incumbent.

4. RFK Jr. has said he'd like that seat (it was his dad's) if HRC went to WH

Maybe Paterson should appoint him if she doesn't finish
her term. At the very least, I'd hope that RFK Jr. would run
to replace her if she decides NOT to run again in '10.

6. "It was his dad's"?????
But....I thought we were opposed to dynasties. Only when it's more than one Clinton, I see.

Hypocrites.

10. Oh, come on ... people routinely refer to seats as having "belonged" to someone
There's the "Paul Wellstone seat" in Minnesota (currently Norm
Coleman's, maybe one day Al Franken's) ... RFK Jr. has been
involved in environmental issues in NY for AGES; it's not like
he is "owed" the seat because his father once held it, but he
should be considered if an appointment needs to be made.

Hey, someday, CHELSEA CLINTON might get appointed to that seat
(formerly her mom's) -- I wouldn't be against that if she ends
up working for causes or doing public service that would recom-
mend her for such a position.

11. Someone recently posted about RFK Jr's heroine bust many years ago
No doubt that would be brought up. So it may be out of his grasp.

12. Ages ago ... he's since done some really good work with RiverKeepers
I'm not saying he should be a lock for it, but he ought to be
at least considered if there's an appointment to be made. And
I don't think New Yorkers are going to care about a drug bust
from decades ago, frankly.

13. I had posted the same hopes for him as you have
That's when another DUer replied with info about the drug arrest. I agree with you that it's a different time. But it's bound to be raised as an issue. Heroin is a scary word and more in the news with the big poppy crops in Afghanistan. Something the opposition can make into a big deal.

8. Rudy Giuliani sent us back into bad air.
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 06:25 PM by aquart
Only the perfectly witless could consider him a viable candidate in NY.

On edit: But not to worry. There is no place except ladies room attendant for Hillary in the Obama administration.

9. A lot of people elected him mayor
And he has aspirations. So it's not out of the question that he goes right back into running for an office again. Perhaps on the Witless Party ticket.
