Lieberman goes after Obama, irritating Durbin

WASHINGTON–Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., has been an odd man out in the Senate Democratic Caucus for a while now. After all, the maverick Democrat-turned-Independent has been one of Bush’s biggest backers on the war. Then he bolted his party after being defeated in a 2006 Democratic primary by anti-war candidate Ned Lamont. And then there’s Lieberman’s outspoken support for GOP nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the presidential contest.

But on Wednesday, Lieberman really riled his one-time Democratic buddies, with whom he still caucuses in the Senate, when he bashed the newly-minted Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., on foreign policy. Lieberman joined a media conference call Wednesday, organized by House Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., to criticize Obama’s stance on the Middle East.

This apparently prompted a tete-a-tete on the Senate floor between Obama and Lieberman, not to mention some worried words from Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., according to Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper. Read the full story below.

2. It was only a few years ago that Durbin donated some of his office space
to freshman senator Obama. Durbin has been around awhile and has a huge office. It all works on seniority. It's funny just 2 or3 years later and Obama is now the head of the party and I'm proud to say I'm from Illinois.

It was fun to greet some of my coworkers this morning with "Hey your neighbor had a pretty good night last night congrats". They live in Hyde Park, Chicago near Obama.

14. You know what?
I think that Obama should give Ned Lamont a cabinet position.

Just to make things clear about loyalty. Loyalty to friends and loyalty to the party.

9. Lieberman really has absolutely no sense of decorum
It just amazes me that, when he was nominated as the Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate, this party rallied around that campaign and supported this man despite the misgivings of many in this country. And the reward?
He backstabs the party by not accepting the will of the electorate when he lost the Democratic primary for the Senate, ran as an "Independent" when he was dependent on Republican support, and has behaved increasingly as a Republican throughout this campaign. He might be an "Independent" but his ability to work across aisles is increasingly in jeopardy because he consistently kisses GOP ass.

During the 2000 recount when we needed the public to forget about the absentee military votes

The fucker went on TV demanding they be counted
throwing a monkey wrench into the plan

He needs to be behind bars with all his Bushco brothers

12. We may not have to put up with Lieb much longer,
if Dems pick up a few more senate seats in nov. then Ried can strip him of his committee assignments, and re-assign him an office in the basement. I imagine that would make Lieb STFU and retire at the end of his term.

16. Look, I'm not from Connecticut
But I have to ask. Why don't those who are from CT make an effort to recall Lieberman? Ned Lamont won the Democratic primary, and enough voters in the state now know which side of the fence Lieberman has chosen to sit on, so there would be enough to make a case for an effort to recall. Let's face it: he's a sleazebag, and he needs to be removed. After all, if California could remove Gray Davis, who was quite largely inoffensive, Lieberman should be a breeze to take down.

But as I said, I don't live in CT, so I don't know how feasible such a move might be.
