Fox analyst apologizes for Obama assassination joke
With an uproar in the blogosphere, Trotta appeared around 9:40 this morning to apologize. Anchor Bill Hemmer reminded her that people have been criticizing her remarks.

Trotta: Yes, I am so sorry about what happened yesterday and the lame attempt at humor. I feel all over myself, making it appear that I wished Barack Obama harm or any other candidate, for that matter, and I sincerely regret it and apologize to anybody I have offended. It is a very colorful political season, and many of us are making mistakes and saying things we wish we had not said.

Besides joking about the assassination of a Senator who's had to take on secret service detail because of such threats, will analysts continue thinking its really funny to mix up "Osama" and "Obama" through November?

She needs to be fired.

16. Yes. I'd rather see her shamed and fired
but if they continue to "apologize" with smiles on their faces their hypocritical behavior will become more and more obvious and their supporters will be put in the position of having to accept being hypocrites along with them.

A win/win in that sense so we must keep insisting they apologize even/especially if it's a lame one. NGU

2. It would appear the last best hope for the neo CON's is for something to happen to Barack
Things will start getting ugly for them once hes in office and they know that. Better to not let it happen if possible. They are some cornered dangerous and batshit crazy bunch, they are.

Point is, WTF good is an apology froma Faux News talking head?

They are all empty shells. None of them have a trace of moral responsibility or even a clue as to what might be considered integrity.

28. Smililng broadly and chuckling at herself, just like last night.
No difference whatsoever in her demeanor between last night and this morning. Totally unrepentent. Trotta is secure in the knowledge that she said what she was told to say - mission accomplished - and she will be rewarded, not punished, for her words.

7. As a U.S. Senator
Obama should demand action and investigation. Put an end to this bullshit right away. FOX cannot do that kind of nonsense, and if someone did it about Bush, it's a crime.

23. Hey probably wont, and it's why we keep getting
kicked in the teeth all of the time. "Above the Fray" is good, but sometimes you need to make a stand. Having FOX news blatantly joke about assassianting a Senator and Presidential candidate is time to make a stand.

In my opinion, if John Kerry would have said "I will not, as a wounded and decorated veteran, have my war record smeared by someone who spent his duty stationed stateside in a unit known jokingly as the Champagne Unit" we would have only had four years of Chimpy.

9. Fox's ratings went up, I'd bet
Thanks for the update on Trotta.

Unfortunately, She isn't Don Imus or this issue might have a longer life in the media, as it should, until she was fired for what she said.

Trotta probably got a pat on the back, good ol' boy-style, from the Fox producers, and they probably apologised to her for making her do damage control. Fox's caveman view base loved her original morbid comment, I'm sure.

15. Liz Trotta has been a right wing a-hole for a long time.
I knew her when she was a reporter in NYC. She was a big defender of the Vietnam War. That was so long ago, I thought she was dead already...

30. She is probably a CIA operative.
Look at her bio. She was one of the first women sent to "cover" the war in Vietnam. How'd she get that assignment? What did she report? She's been New York bureau chief of the Washington Times.

Operative all the way. She's untouchable and she knows it. The fix is in.

that saying you're sorry is the first step, but to get forgiveness, you need to make reparations for what you've done.

What does she plan to do to undo the damage she has caused.

The apology isn't enough.

Last night she said that she hoped that somebody would kill both Osama and Obama. This morning she apologized for "sounding like I was saying" something that she now claims she didn't say.

The fix is in.

We all know Liz Trotta meant what she said. She is a horrible person. Liz should be fired and faux should be fined.
But I’m not holding my breath for either to happen.
It really pisses me off that faux gets away with shit this.

36. So, is a "lame attempt at humor" the same as a "botched joke"?
I guess the only difference is that a "botched joke" merits 24/7 media coverage and near universal condemnation on the TeeVee.

Or if she received dozens of calls in the middle of the night on her cell phone from people telling her how much they hoped she would be taken out? You think she would accept a light-hearted smiling apology from those people after that?
