quotes that have never been made public. Way back in 1968, I wrote him a letter. I figured Bobby was way too busy to answer, and I would have a better chance hearing back from his little brother. It was the first year I had become aware of what was going on in the world, and I wasn't very happy with what I saw.

I was on my way to a downtown rally for RFK in Indianapolis. I was so excited. Earlier that day, I had the good fortune of shaking his hand. It was also my first of two upfront and personal meetings with the Secret Service who were providing protection for him, as a presidential candidate.

Anyway, on that bus ride, I penned a rather sloppy letter to Ted. I told him that Robert looked very tired, and that perhaps; he needed a good home cooked meal and a night of relaxation...at my home of course. I challenged them to a game of pool. I even provided my address and phone number. :)

I was young and oblivious as to how very ridiculous my offer was.

A couple weeks later, I received a very nice response. I think Ted sensed I was a youngun. He thanked me for my letter and told me that if the situation came up, he and Bobby would certainly take me up on my kind offer...and he signed it himself.

By the way, my second exposure to the Secret Service came later that evening. My best friend and I were at the hotel where Bobby was to speak. We decided that our best shot of meeting him personally was to knock on his hotel room door before the speech. Like I said, we were young and so naive.

We got stopped about six feet from his door. But then, I did get to shake his hand.

How fortunate you were to actually meet RFK and hear back personally from Teddy.

A close friend of mine was at the Ambassador Hotel the night Bobby Kennedy got shot. He was so disllusioned that he got out of politics completely for decades--until the Bush regime came along, and he became an activist once again.

The Kennedy brothers sure knew how to inspire folks. If only we could clone them!

and another of RFK's . . .
but I just realized that I have no collection of Ted Kennedy speeches --

I hope he will recover and be back quickly -- we really need him in the Senate!!!

Kennedy left a young woman trapped in a car that he had driven off a bridge. Of this fact, there is no dispute.

He states that he had first tried to rescue her, then went back to the party house and came back with a friend to try again, then he states that he made the remark given in the Subject (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chappaquiddick_incident).

He went to his hotel, went to bed, did not contact police until after the body was discovered the next day - though by is own admission he was unhurt and out and about for quite awhile - passing up many opportunities to make what might have been a life-saving call as it is alleged that an air-pocket was left in the car, and that Ms Kopechne's body was found in that air-pocket - had EMS been called, she might have been alive.

Kennedy's actions ensured that she had no chance.

Sorry.

I see Edward Kennedy as a (smarter) Bush: A child of money and privilege with no sense of common decency or responsibility. Bush sits on the conservative hobby horse, Kennedy the liberal - but neither is a horseman.
