Bible Theme Park rezoning voted DOWN in Tennessee...amazing!
Edited on Sat May-17-08 12:19 AM by southerncrone
The county commission in Rutherford Co. heard arguments & deliberated until after 1:00 am on whether to rezone a tract of land where developers want to place a Bible Theme Park. Thankfully, good sense prevailed & this monstrosity was voted down!

Property owners in the area vehemently opposed this & so far, they are winning. Hard to believe this wasn't approved here on the "buckle" of the Bible Belt. The developers are not giving up, however.

The developers are Israeli-American JEWS! And to really ice the cake, one of the financial backers was a Penthouse & Club photographer!

THERE'S MONEY IN JESUS! Everybody wants a piece of the action!

2. Good news. Besides, Colorado Springs is ALREADY a Bible theme park.

We don't need another one in Tennessee.

Hiya, southerncrone. :hi:

5. Especially when we have the Creation Museum just up the road in KY.
Sorry about Colorado Springs. I suspect they will eventually prevail with one here in TN, whether or not it's at this location. We have a beautiful state that draws tourists anyway, I just don't want us to become a Fundie magnet! We already have enough of our own home-grown ones!

Good to "see" ya, Old Crusoe!:toast:

days in Orlando. Instead of the cheesy dioramas of bible stories, they were going to pattern it on Disney World, with rides and concessions but (and get this) restricted admission so the kiddies would never see any nasty old gays or Muslims or atheists or anybody else whose existence offends the Dispensationalist "Christians." There would also be a strict dress code, so those death metal T-shirts wouldn't offend the prissy parkgoers, either.

Locating it close to Nashville was a stroke of genius, too. The only other place that would seem to be as appealing would be Branson, Missouri, only the weather isn't as reliable there.

I confess when I read the whole description of this abomination several weeks ago, I didn't know whether to be amused or appalled. I've been to Disney World, and can't imagine any place on earth more sanitized from unpleasant reality than that. Apparently, these guys were going to try, though.

12. apparently, the developer doesn't think the rules apply to them and
are looking for loopholes to fuck the adjacent landowners..:

"While we recognize tonight's action was undertaken assuming that a valid adjacent landowner petition was timely filed we have informed the county attorney that in our opinion it was not. This issue will have to be addressed in the coming days."

They clearly intend to use sly tactics to get what they want....

GRRRRRRR....

14. They apparently didn't think it would be that great a draw
I figure if this was going to be a Huge Tourist Attraction, they'd have built it in Sevier County, where Pigeon Forge (the Tourist Trap of East Tennessee) is.

Since it wasn't expected to, they wanted to put it near Nashville--where there once stood a very nice amusement park, Opryland USA, that the Pigeon Forge attractions put out of business.

15. I originally thought it should be up around Pigeon Forge, too. But
then realized that Dollywood is there & it has some religiously based events, what with the Gospel Music and all.

So, guess they thought they'd slime up Middle Tennessee with this crap. Nashville is more centrally located & easily accessible from all Fundie states, plus quite a few Christian colleges around. What the developers don't realize is that Middle Tennessee State University is there, also. The state's largest university & MAJOR party school! Could pose some interesting encounters!

16. Hahah thanks for the update. This story is a hoot
I should write to those Jewish guys and tell them I'm ashamed and disgusted. Setting up an "idol park" full of misinformation and promoting another religion is about as Un-Jewish as you can get.

They may be Israeli-American but they certainly aren't very Jewish. Bleh. Douchbags.

17. Yeah, SC...
...I've been following this too. And I've been quite surprised by the rejection of the idea
that I've seen on the Tennessean blogs as well. Usually that's where the Fundie/Neocons
hangout, which is why I seldom post there. But this was a bad idea from the word go.

And the best evidence was that bible park down in FL that scourged and killed Jesus on a
daily basis, and was still hemorrhaging money. And had to taken over by those Trinity
Broadcasting folks out there in Hendersonville.

- And if you can't make money scourging and killing in a tropical state, Tennessee didn't stand a chance....
