Biggest Republican Hypocrite - A Special Award?
It might be time for a weekly award recognizing Republicans who've outdone the rest of the GOP in plain hypocrisy. Maybe we can call it the Henry Hyde Gold-Plated Hypocrite award, in honor of the late philanderer who led the charge against Bill Clinton's philandering. The award need not be limited to sexual hypocrisy, but that's a favorite area for Republican superciliousness.

This week's nominees include Cindy McCain who won't release her tax returns because it's her money, not his. It takes real denial to claim that the couple's joint assets are nobody's business. I'd also tip my hat to Congressman Vito Fossella who copped to a "mistake in judgement." Turns out that this well-known Family Values guy has a family in Staten Island and another in Washington DC. The spirit of Henry Hyde lives on!

Any other nominations? If you'd like to name the award after say, Dick Cheney, this is appropriate, too. The award itself will be a statuette made of a metal that tarnishes easily.

2. One thing wrong with such an award
Republicans would be competing for it, trying to see just how low they can go.

I'd recommend Vito whatshisname of New York for his "youthful indiscretion" with Laura Fay. He was even younger than Henry Hyde when he knocked up a woman-not-his-wife. But then he announced he was going to step down, showing a modicum of shame not heretofore evident in Republican politicians in this century.

Cindy Stoneface seems like a good choice.
