Gore: ""I won't accept a cabinet post regardless of which of the 3 candidates wins the presidency"
Gore says he's no cabinet candidate
ROME - Sorry, next president. Al Gore is not available to be your interior secretary, or secretary of state, or whatever.

"I won't accept a cabinet post regardless of which of the three candidates wins the presidency," Gore said yesterday.

"I am looking for a way to bring about change in other ways," the former vice president and former Democratic presidential candidate said. Gore is in Rome to present the Italian version of his Current Media Inc.'s Current TV channel.

He is one of the superdelegates Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are courting to try to secure the Democratic nomination. - Bloomberg News

3. I can understand that
He served in the government in some capacity for many years, I can see him not wanting to be in the government again.

7. Department of Energy would be an obvious choice.
But, it looks like Al has a pretty good handle on how he can best shape the big debates. He's done with the government thing.

5. Al Gore is happy doing what he is doing, how many times
does the man have to say he is not going to be in the political arena.

10. That's a little harsh
don't you think? Al Gore has a good record in many areas, and he has worked as hard as others in making the world realize how fucked up we've become. I don't think too many people think of him as a "god" at all, just someone who got screwed and has been proving his mettle ever since.

As far as "bloviating" to the rest of the world, he is an excellent ambassador to the world for the causes he supports, causes that many of us also support. Whether you like the man or not, that's your opinion, and I say good for you. But to disparage the good he has done over the years is completely counterproductive and just plain nasty.

11. Maybe what he says is true
"I am looking for a way to bring about change in other ways". Bloviating on the world stage? Maybe that is because he is taken seriously in the rest of the world, and mocked by the yahoos that live in this country. He doesn't stand much chance of making change here- lobbyist run the representative that make law in this country. Yeah, we may here more about the problems with him in an office, but our corporate media will tell you at every oppurtunity what a nutcase he is. Maybe if he can affect some change in the rest of the world, we may finally realize how backwards of a country we are, and finally do something about it.

12. That was uncalled for. Why would he want to put his family
through what they went through in 2000? Where you you proles when the menapausal brigade was attacking him with lie after lie? Where were you when the right wing was staging protests in front of the VP Residence saying get out of Cheney's house?

I am happy for him, and wish him the best, and NO, he does not owe us anything.

13. Make him an offer he can't refuse: let him telecommute and . . .
give him omnipotent Cheney-like powers.

And let him work part time.

Give Al a hammer and he will . . .

14. Ummm. Gore's OWN words:
“You know, I haven't ruled out the idea of getting back into the political process at some point in the future,” Gore said. “Don't expect to, but if I did get back, it would be as a candidate for president, not in any other position .”

15. I am starting to become annoyed by Al Gore....
Edited on Fri May-09-08 05:31 PM by ShaneGR
He keeps saying he is looking for other ways to bring about change. But the single greatest way for him to make real change would be to reinsert himself back in government. Bothers me. He should just come out and say once and for all, after what I went through in 2000 I won't ever come back.

that would be fruitless.

The American government is paralyzed and can't pass meaningful legislation to reform pretty much anything substantively on the scale required.
