With Friends Like These . . .Who Needs Hillary?

They just won't leave him alone.

It's not bad enough that Obama has to tread a delicate path around the Lion's Clubs and Pancake Houses of Indiana and North Carolina, carefully avoiding the Hillary campaign surrogates that nip at his ankles like so many annoying, agitated chihuahuas.

No, he’s also faced with the head-smacking reality that his own former pastor seems more interested in preening in the klieg lights than actually helping Obama become President.

Instead of obeying the first rule of holes and just holding his hyperactive tongue in check, Rev. Jeremiah Wright threw open his arms and embarked on some kind of puffed-up self-proclaimed speaking tour at a series of well-publicized events right before the final crucial democratic primaries. With each appearance his ego grew, as did his overblown rhetoric. First he appeared on PBS with Bill Moyers on Friday night, followed by a Sunday morning sermon in Dallas and speech at the Detroit NAACP later that night. The blitz culminated in an audacious performance at the National Press Club on Monday, where he brought a Greek chorus of his congregation members to whip up the crowds. The Hillary or McCain campaigns couldn’t have asked for a better gift.

Bob Herbert writing in today’s New York Timessummed it up nicely: “So there he was lecturing an audience at the National Press Club about everything from the black slave experience to the differences in sentencing for possession of crack and powdered cocaine. All but swooning over the wonderfulness of himself, the reverend acts like he is the first person to come up with the idea that blacks too often get the short end of the stick in America . . .”

During his outrageous act on Monday, Wright refused to retract his previous comment that the United States might have invented HIV, saying that “Based on this Tuskegee experiment and based on what has happened to Africans in this country, I believe our government is capable of doing anything." Then he defended the Rev. Louis Farrakhan, explaining that Farrakhan wasn’t his enemy because he’d never put him in chains or put him in slavery or made him this color. Wright continued to bounce, preen, and mug for the cameras: “Louis and I don't agree on everything . . . . He is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century. When Louis Farrakhan speaks, it's like E.F. Hutton speaks, all black America listens.” What was that? I think I just heard Barack drop a bottle of pancake syrup at “Missy’s House of Muffins” in Terre Haute.

Bob Herbert had this to say about Jumpin’ Jerimiah’s NAACP speech in Detroit: “Mr. Wright mocked the regional dialects of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. I’m not sure how he felt that was helpful in his supposed quest to bring about a constructive discussion about race and reconciliation in the U.S.”

You knew it would be bad when the Rev. Wendell Anthony, president of the Detroit NAACP branch, excitedly anticipated Wright’s address, saying at a press conference before the dinner that he was excited to invite the "hottest brother in America right now." The performance was hot, but in a nuclear waste kinda way. Bob Herbert’s description of the JFK and LBJ dialect diss wasn’t colorful enough. The wrong Rev. Wright – in an attempt to explain why it’s unfair to criticize the speech patterns of black children - pinched up his face and did a simpering JFK impersonation: “John Kennedy could stand at the inauguration and say : "’Eesk not what your country can do for you. Eesk rather what you can do for your country.’ How do you spell ‘eesk’?” In this case I’d spell it b-u-f-f-o-o-n.

So what can Obama do? Instead of focusing on legitimate campaign issues and those pesky Clinton puppies peeing on his pants legs, he has to stop and – yet again – distance himself from this man who has morphed into some kind of malevolent cartoon clown that thrives on constant attention, regardless of the consequences.

Jeff Zeleny, also writing in today’s New York Times had this to say about the Obama defense: “‘He does not speak for me,' Obama said. ‘He does not speak for the campaign. He may make statements in the future that don't reflect my values or concerns. I think certainly what the last three days indicate is that we're not coordinating with him, right?’ Obama made his remarks at a hastily called news conference on the tarmac of the airport here late in the day, with the engines of his campaign plane buzzing in the background. His decision to address the issue directly reflected the extent to which Wright has emerged once again as a problem for his campaign. And at a sensitive time: Obama has been seeking to appeal to white, blue-collar voters who voted in big numbers for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in Pennsylvania, and is trying to convince uncommitted superdelegates to rally to his side.”

Adding insult to injury, at one point during his National Press Club comedy routine on Monday, Reverend Wright said that “I am not running for office, but I am open to being Vice President.” To which we can only collectively exclaim: “no! he didn’t . . .!"

27. What ho Truthseekers! Admin caught in Doublespeak
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 08:17 PM by BillORightsMan
From Jason Leopold at consortiumnews.com

The Bush Team's Geneva Hypocrisy

In retrospect – now with much more of the documentary record available – the disparity between the administration’s outrage toward the Iraqis for showing the video and the abuse inflicted by the U.S. government on captives from the Iraq and Afghan wars is stunning.

Declassified documents reveal that the Bush administration concocted legal theories to justify sidestepping the Geneva Convention when it came to prisoners incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay, at secret CIA prisons and at various locations in Iraq, including Abu Ghraib where shocking photos were leaked of sexual and physical abuse in 2004.

Indeed, while U.S. government officials were preaching to Iraqis about the rules of war, the Bush administration was seven months into a secret interrogation program that authorized CIA interrogators to question Afghan and al-Qaeda detainees using brutal methods.

:wow:

How are we gonna get these BASTURDS? The DEMS are NO HELP!
Two side of the same coin, truthseekers!

33. #4! Good evening ralps and Fellow Truthseekers!!
Hope that everyone is well! I'm late as I had my hands on an animal that is 80% wolf 20% dog! She is gorgeous and very well behaved. I've commented on DU that I don't like that people around me are breeding these mixes, as the main complaint is that the animals are unpredictable - the lupine overrides the canine - and he admitted to having to watch her closely in his household. The fur doesn't feel like dog fur and HAC has been avoiding me even though I washed my hands.

Hope that everyone is doing well! :hi:

She is a beautiful animal, but I wasn't expecting someone who we'd been talking to for 30-45 mins. to say that he needed to go check on his wolf! Doesn't happen everyday to me anyway!

I approached her with a low voice with my palm up and she was instantly licking me and I was amazed that she would allow me touch her so soon! Hope that you and your family are doing well! :hi:

I'm off to check on Mr. lefty, and I need some sleep, too!

edit to add: since this caller is talking about McSame and his wife - what about one of Sam's listeners dubbing Cindy McSame allowing McSame's use of her private jet
the "Trollop 1". That jet in now dubbed the "Trollop 1", yes and to me it was funny because the wife allows her spouse to say such things to her! Goodnight everyone.

60. I lost it when he faded out with "That September Day" chorous
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 09:13 PM by liberaltrucker
 I've just now somewhat regained my composure.

Where were you when the world stopped turin'
On that September day,
Out in the yard your wife and children
Or workin on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock
At the sight of that black smoke risin' against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger and fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who dont know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride for the red white and blue
And the heros who died just foin what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters

*Chorus*
Im just a singer of simple songs
Im not a real political man
I watch CNN but im not sure i can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
I know Jesus and i talk to god
And i remember this from when i was young
Fate hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turing
On that September day
Teachin' a class full of innocent children
Or diving down some cold interstate (that'd be me)
Did you feel guilty cuz you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Colse your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset for the first time in ages
Or speak to some strager on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out an buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on 'I Love Lucy' re-runs
Did you go to church and hold hands with some stangers
And stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank god you had somebody to love

*Chorus*
*Chorus

Is Jeremiah Wright a colossal disaster for Barack Obama or a press trick?
Tuesday, April 29th 2008, 4:00 AM

Somodevilla/Getty

The Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club event Monday, which was organized by Reynolds.
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright couldn't have done more damage to Barack Obama's campaign if he had tried. And you have to wonder if that's just what one friend of Wright wanted.

Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.

A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).

It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club "who organized" the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter.

On a blog linked to her Web site- www.reynoldsnews.com - Reynolds said in a February post: "My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you" to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton's presidency.

The same post criticized Obama's "Audacity of Hope" theme: "Hope by definition is not based on facts," wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time."

In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: "It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement."

they decided to keep her because she was septic and her blood counts were off. Kristy said she took it pretty well. Everyone else is doing ok. I was at my sister's house all day on Sunday, so I got to hang out with her, Kristy and the baby.

The doctor said it should only be about a week. She's in the hospital here in Bayonne. When I think of how bad the people at Beth Israel allowed the bed sore to get, I just want to scream. It's so deep, it's possibly affecting nerves and contributing to the weakness in her legs. :grr:

Saturday, 22 March 2008
US Vice-President Dick Cheney has met Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to discuss ways of stabilising the oil market.

US officials said there was "a lot of commonality" in the talks in Riyadh on the way to move forward in the global energy market.

Oil prices have risen about 16% this year, but the oil producers' cartel, Opec, has declined to raise output.

Arbusto means "Bush" in Spanish.

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Bush's Former Oil Company Linked To bin Laden Family

"Salem bin Laden, Osama's older brother, was an investor in Arbusto Energy. - the Texas oil company started by George W. Bush. Arbusto means "Bush" in Spanish. Salem bin Laden died in an airplane crash in Texas in 1988."

"Although George W. Bush's Texas oil ventures were financial failures, his financial backers recovered their investments through a series of mergers and stock swaps. He changed Arbusto's name to Bush Exploration, then merged the new firm into Spectrum 7 Energy Corporation in 1984."

ON EDIT:
"The Bush-controlled oil business eventually ended up being folded into Harken Energy Corp., a Dallas-based corporation. Mr. Bush joined Harken as a director in 1986 and was given 212,000 shares of Harken stock. Bush used his White House connections to land a lucrative contract for the obscure Harken Energy Corp. with the Middle Eastern government of Bahrain. On June 20, 1990, George W. Bush sold his Harken stock for $848,000 and paid off his loan he took out to buy his small share in the Texas Rangers. The Bahrain deal was brokered by David Edwards, a close pal to Bill Clinton and a former employee of Stephens Inc. Shortly after Bush sold his stock, Harken's fortunes nose-dived when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Some critics claim young George was tipped off in advance by his father about the soon-coming Gulf War."

NO WONDER gwb invaded Iraq!!!! Saddam stiffed him!
