Letter to Marriott: Purge porn from your rooms
Nearly 50 pro-family leaders are asking the Marriott hotel chain to take pornographic movies out of guest rooms.

In an April 3 letter to CEO John Marriott III, 47 pro-family leaders requested a meeting to discuss the issue. The letter goes on to say that pulling the pay-per-view movies would be in line with Marriott's public statement of "promoting the well-being of children and families" and stand against "... such tragedies as human trafficking and the exploitation of children."

Among the pro-family leaders who signed the letter are: Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family), Bishop Harry Jackson (High Impact Leadership Council), Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), Paul Weyrich (Free Congress Foundation), Dr. Richard Land (Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission), Matt Staver (Liberty Counsel), and Robert Peters (Morality in Media).

6. Damn the nanny staters
I don't watch porn, it doesn't do a thing for me. That's why I don't BUY IT when I stay in a hotel.

The pursed lips crowd need to stop going around with the attitude that the world should never contain ANYTHING of a sexual nature that might offend them or tempt them in a weak moment. There is no constitutional right to going through life never being offended by the pleasures of strangers.

I think the Marriot would be better off if they banned the prissy guests instead of the pay per view porn.

15. We stayed at some Mariott hotels lately
I couldn't believe they were offering porn. I'm not of the "pursed lips" crowd, but this was just ridiculous.

Mariott, for better or worse, IS a chain of family hotels, and so porn shouldn't be part of the package. It belongs in the no-tell motels where condoms are given out for free in the restrooms. It's not a matter of morals, it's a matter of marketing: Sell porn to those more likely to be interested, not to a hotel room where a 9-year-old might stumble onto the menu while channel hopping.

19. You can *block* it from your room.
Same as you can do at home. And I've been at plenty of large hotels that cater to both families and businesses that offer this.
If you don't like it, don't watch it!

23. Bullsh*t. . .what the hell is this "family hotel" routine?
It's PAY-PER-VIEW for one thing, meaning there is some choice involved. Moreover, who said that the majority of people who stay in that chain of hotels is some stereotypical "family?" As a single person, I rather resent that crap about "family" hotels, as if the rest of us aren't "qualified" to stay or use services that are reserved exclusively for "family" use. It's bad enough that we pay taxes with rarely any say in policies in the schools or anywhere else, have to put up with unruly children that parents are too tired or too lazy to control in public. . .now I have to walk in everywhere and be told that adults without children should stay in some "seedy" hotel because the "nice" ones are reserved for the proper adults?

I hate to say this - but you didn't get those kids by not doing some porn in real life...and some of ya did it in a hotel room.

24. Did anyone force you to buy it?
Why are your knickers in a knot over the fact that it is offered to business travelers who do want to buy it?

13. Actually, from what I've heard they're the same
I read somewhere that porn viewing in hotels goes up by quite a bit when there's a religious (especially Baptist) convention going on. So basically what we have here is that once again the religious right needs to clean up their own house before going after anyone else.

12. If the bible leaders promised to MOVE INTO the hotel
and bring their congregation with them... and stay for a year... It would still lose the hotels money to block the porn.

I've read that adult entertainment in the rooms is the only reason that some of these hotel chains are profitable some years.

14. Marriot's porn peddling is always a great topic
on the sports message boards I frequent. You see, the Marriot chain is owned by a prominent LDS family. And, since we (University of Wyoming) are long time conference mates and rivals with BYU, we rib them every chance we get about "the house that porn built," an allusion to the Marriot Center, BYU's basketball arena. Nothing like gold old fashioned hypocrisy. :D

17. Perhaps there could be a compromise: Marriott could install some sort of
remote control device that determines what is displayed on the TV. Advanced models could even have the ability to (de)activate the TV. If this device had some sort of catchy name - 'clicker,' or something like that - I think it might become mildly popular...

21. "human trafficking and exploitation of children?"
These clowns have a lot of room to talk. They brainwash their children into their wingnut "religious" moneymaking-scheme cults, campaign for a dominionist government and piss on the constitutional rights of anyone outside their cabal of evangelical crazies. There isn't anything pro-MY family about these jerks.

Why didn't they just ask Marriott to put cameras in all of the rooms so these voyeuristic, sexually obsessed phony "Christians" can sit in their own rooms and get THEIR porn for free?

22. Here are some hotel issues that I'd like to see letters written about
Does the hotel provide decent wages and working conditions to its employees?

Is the hotel a good steward of the environment?

Does the hotel treat their guests fairly without hidden charges or other nefarious schemes?

I could care less if a hotel facilitates masturbation.

Exploitation of wage slaves is A-OK, but pornos in hotel rooms? Perish the thought!

26. They should demand they stop serving alcohol, too
If they're really worried about things that hurt the "well-being of children and families," why stop at porn? Get rid of the hotel bars and the minibars. I'd think that alcohol is a much worse problem in families.
