I'm wondering if Randi is gone for good.
Doesn't this seem to be going on a bit long?

1. It sure has been too long
I love Sam, but I want both of them to have shows.

Have you written to AAR? I told them I agreed that she shouldn't have said those things at a station event, but enough is enough. Bring her back.

2. No--two weeks in SOP in these cases.
If she'd said what she did on that air, that would be a different story.

They're not going to toss their biggest meal ticket without a fight.

3. Day before yesterday someone posted here that the avg.
suspension is 2 weeks, so look for her return next week. You know they are still running her promo ads. If she was really gone, they wouldn't be doing that.

6. I hope so.
AAR would be smart to use this as an opportunity to clense itself of a loose cannon like Randi.

8. Unfortunately AAR management is not smart
I would go so far to say that the owners and management are doing their best to tank progressive radio. I don't care if you don't like Randi but she had more radio experience than any one in their lineup. I got hooked on Randi when the IEAmerica network was shut down. I expect they will cut her loose because she tells the truth and it will cut their payroll cost.
As evidence to their stupidity or Fifth column tactics, they pulled Tom Hartmann on their flagship station to replace him with Ed Shultz. They dumped Malloy, another truth seeker. Their weekend programming sucks except for a few shows. They don't do any serious promotion or get into station ownership. AAR has become a joke, I spend most of my time listening to NovaM and KRXA. On the weekends This is Hell (WNUR)and KPFK World Focus and Background Briefing help keep me sane and informed.

7. I bet she's negotiating with Nova M as we type.
At least I hope she is.

AAR fucked up (and not just with Randi BTW), they don't deserve her talent.

9. UPDATE: On 4/10 with Larry King Live, she said she is starting with Nova M.
He had to cut her off, but not because of anything she said. It was a breaking news story out of Mexico.

Sam Seder did a good job today. He handled a very disturbing situation in a practically lighthearted way.

I wanted to call him and tell him that there could be a rainbow in this cloud.

I had to do the same thing the night Larry King was arrested (in December 1971 -- see www.mugshots.com for his charming photo). He lost his radio, TV show, and newspaper column with the Miami Beach Sun. I was working as his unpaid screener, and the next night, I took over until they found another male host for the 11 PM to 5 AM shift. I did it three days a week from December to April -- then got a job offer for a daytime show in Boston.

Larry was arrested over a money transaction that went sour. He was never indicted or convicted, and he obviously got some better financial advice after that debacle.

But it launched my career in Miami and Boston, so I'm eternally grateful.

Larry always says, "You need some luck to make it in this business." How true! He was my lucky charm!

Cordially,

Radio Lady in Oregon
