What do people think of terrapass.com for carbon offsets?
That company looks very legit, and I like their projects.

I'm trying to decide which offset organization I should suggest to people, and it's between them and my-climate.com

2. I was thinking I needed to learn more about carbon offsets...

be I'm one of many. Could you write up an overview for DU?

I was also interested in who and what is envolved in producing the offsets. Are they looking for land? Do the just add tree where ever?

4. Here are the links to both sites.
There you will find answers to your questions - and explained better than I can. Maybe the OP will add more info.

www.terrapass.com
www.my-climate.com

5. I'm not an expert, but could write an overview....although...
i would suggest going to my-climate.com and spending some time reading up on (and watching vids) on their programs. Without saying they're the best, they do explain themselves in depth.

Go to Gore's website climatecrisis.org and surf to the offset info.

terrapass.com seems legit. Explanations are available at all these sites.

It's a hard thing to explain and easily critisized...but the concept is highly worthwhile.

Google the UN credentials that are listed for many offsets (including some above) to understand where that's coming from.

3. I just purchased a Terra Pass a few days ago...
for my vehicle. I had not heard of my-climate.com and so I checked it out. The calculations definitely differ. To replace my CO2 by terrapass calculations, which were more explicit in make and model, my pass cost was 49.95. By my-climate calculations, it was more than $80. my-climate seems to have more sponsors, or at least they are displayed more prominently.

6. where the $ goes is what is of interest to me.
Those orgs that put the money towards alternative energy efforts (that is, investment in endeavors working to solve some of the problems) are of most interest to me.
