Get out your hankies...Oregon GOP in big debt and in big IRS trouble
Oh, the humanity! Why, why does this have to happen to the GOP? Let's all pitch in to help them out, m'kay? Anyone want to organize a bake sale?

An embarrassment of debt for Oregon GOP
Posted by Jeff Mapes February 20, 2008 07:53AM
Categories: Republicans

The bad news just keeps rolling in for Oregon Republicans. According to Harry Esteve at The Oregonian, it now turns out that the state Republican Party is $264,000 in debt and has an IRS lien for failure to pay payroll taxes.

Party officials blame the payroll tax problem on an "irresponsible employee" who has since been fired. But clearly the party's money issues go beyond that. The fact is that the party is not alone. House and Senate Republicans have also had trouble raising money and are being far outpaced by the Democratic majority.

Maybe a little herb will help their sphincters relax long enough the stick will fall out and they can start to act like something vaguely human.

3. And they're party of fiscal responsibility
This is why the GOP has to recruit "self-financing" (read: overrich, bored robber barons) candidates.

11. Such great news!
I have only lived in Oregon for a bit more than three years. The thing that made me know I'd stay a while was a burning desire to vote against Gordon Smith, and see a Democrat in his seat. The arrogance of his office stunned me, and I am used to Republican offices. On the other hand, the organization and excellence at Peter DeFazio's office reminded me of why I am a Democrat.

12. Glad you decided to stay!
We've been here more than 12 years. I've lived around the country, but I'm happy to be here now. It's a good place to raise kids, too. I grew up in California, but I'm glad I'm not raising my kids there.
