why are there ads in some people's posts?

Do you mean political ads? Or actual ads? Some posters, believe it or not, are actually paid to go around on the web and draw attention to products, or alienate members of certain political groups. I'm sure it would be a free-speech violation to say that such individuals should be required to identify themselves... but oh well.

them in blue, it says google ads. not sig lines. sorry to say, I don't usually notice sig lines.
they are in op posts. not very many and not a problem. Just curious.

10. was wondering if you refer to the share post button bar on bottom of OP

there is a google button along with other buttons. Not sure how it works but I think it may be some sort of linking mechanism to certain other social forum sites, it that is what you are referring to.

At first, I thought it may have something to do with not having a star, but the ad disappeared just as soon as I signed in to reply.

I don't know how to do a "capture", but it was right there, inside your topic window, up at the top on the right hand side. Just like you've described.

I don't know, but I've noticed it every time I come to DU without logging in, and I think it's junk. My donor star is gone. I know it's been a while, but now, I don't want to donate. I hope Skinner guys make money. This place is serving our Democratic community, and I don't expect anybody to work for free. Don't know how much money it takes to run this project, or how much these ads bring in, but I have to say, these ads gone over the top in terms of intrusiveness imho.
