Title of article is "Bush, Facing Troubles, Focuses on War and Taxes"

Scroll down half-way

- thumbnail of graph image is on left side of article

Here's a snip from the Article:

"Yet Mr. Bush devoted relatively little of his 53 minute speech to the economy, the issue that is the top concern of voters during this election year. He spent far more time talking about the issue that has been his own primary concern, Iraq.

Mr. Bush made the case that his troop buildup had “achieved results few of us could have imagined just one year ago,” and reminded Americans that in coming months, 20,000 troops will have come home. Yet he avoided any timetable for further withdrawal and, if anything, seemed to be preparing the country for a far longer-term stay in Iraq, warning that a precipitous withdrawal could lead to a backslide in security."

6. "terror" vs "iraq"
Interesting that mentions of Iraq didn't pick up until a year after terrorism became a big topic. It took them a while to start scapegoating Iraq for September 11.

10. He keeps the freeper contingent with him saying terror, Iraq, freedom and taxes.
Freepers are scared to death of terrorists, believe they live in Iraq so they don't dare enlist to fight them, believe in giving up freedoms to be safe and think taxes should only be used to protect their asses.

12. I think he did mention global warming this time but not before..
probably because until recently he wouldn't admit it existed.

So perhaps NYTimes didn't track that one.

It's an interesting chart but has to be taken with a grain of salt based on how they classify terms and which they include and exclude.

I think another poster said Keith O. mentioned Anthrax on the TV but I didn't watch that program.

15. Poor "surplus" ... it used to be so welcome, so popular ...
but it fell in with bad company, and just look where it is now.
