Dana Milbank assumes the role of an anthropologist researching national politics in Washington, DC, in Homo Politicus: The Strange and Scary Tribes that Run our Government. Mr. Milbank profiles the malfeasance of several politicians and outlines the many rituals and customs that are specific to today's political landscape. Mr. Milbank discusses his book with Juan Williams, political analyst for Fox News and NPR.

Franklin Foer, Election 2008: A Voter's Guide
Franklin Foer and the editors of The New Republic profile the presidential candidates for both political parties. During this panel discussion, the authors offer news, analysis, and insight into each of the contenders. Panelists include Leon Wieseltier, Michelle Cottle, Michael Crowley, Noam Scheiber, and Jonathan Chait. This discussion took place at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue in Washington, DC.

David Frum, Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again
David Frum contends that conservatism and the Republican party has lost its way and devises a series of steps to revitalize the right. Mr. Frum's prosposals range from lowering taxes on savings to a conservative engagement in environmentalism that promotes nuclear power over oil and coal. David Frum discusses his book at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC.

Harriet Washington, Medical Apartheid: The Dark History Of Medical Experimentation On Black Americans From Colonial Times To The Present
Journalist and medical ethicist Harriet Washington details medical research on African-Americans from colonial times to the 20th century. She describes the Tuskegee Syphilis Study that began in 1932 and was conducted by the US Public Health Service. Almost 400 African-American men were withheld treatment for syphilis to study how the disease would affect them in its late stages. The author contends that this is just one of several experiments that shaped the way in which African-Americans relate to today's medical industry. Ms. Washington is a finalist for the 2007 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction.

Brent Bozell, Whitewash: What the Media Won't Tell You About Hillary Clinton, But Conservatives Will
Brent Bozell says Hillary Clinton has received unprecedented media favoritism which has paved the way for her to become president. Mr. Bozell claims that the media have not thoroughly investigated Hillary Clinton and have given her numerous breaks in their questioning and coverage. This event was hosted by the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

I'm glad I didn't watch it all because I'm afraid he's somewhat right. On the other hand, he could have said the same thing about most of the mainstream candidates.

On the other hand, Chomsky's segment was gorgeous. "When I first started giving these talks, the turnout was the host, the organizer, someone who wanted to kill me and a drunk who'd wandered in off of the street." lol
