Boehner calls extended unemployment benefits "pork" & the Senate Dems who want them "irresponsible"

While the House reached a deal with the White House to advance the bill Thursday, many Senate Democrats want to include extended unemployment benefits -- a provision House Democrats dropped to reach the agreement with House Republicans and the Bush administration. "The package is not complete. And while it is a very good first step, we need to move a little farther," said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, issued a statement saying, "Working families should be assured that this agreement is not the final word. Families are in crisis, and it's not enough just to help with their taxes. I intend to offer amendments in the Senate to strengthen this package -- to provide unemployment insurance to workers looking for jobs, and to help families coping with high heating costs and skyrocketing food prices." Some Democrats have said they may want to add Medicaid aid to states or a summer youth jobs program.

House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio joined Bush's effort to push Senate Democrats to drop their objections. "It would be irresponsible for Senate Democrats to load this bill up with pork and other spending," Boehner said, without citing what he was referring to as "pork."

"Families and small businesses need help now, and this agreement shouldn't be derailed because of partisan politics," he said. Democrats have said they do not consider their concerns about the bill to be partisan politics.

but in reality everyone hates him because he's a self-centered asshole. He also tends to smell like bourbon, cigarettes and cheap cologne.

10. If we had a real opposition party -

Boner would get "kneecapped" for this to the press, just like the GOP did to Pete Stark. But our side is too busy trying to be "bipartisan." They're gonna find out that "bipartisan" will not fuel voter turnout or donations.

Edit to add: Even among the scum of the GOP, Boner is one of the worst of the pigs.

11. Anything that benefits people who need help is pork.
Anything that benefits multi-millionaires and giant corporations is not pork.

14. Whotta douche.
UI held me up for four months in 2001, and others for a lot longer. I would hardly consider it "pork", as that disgrace to my state so puts it.

Go to Hell, Boner.

15. I have heard it said that
You'll never be offered a job by a poor man. That may or may not be true, but I don't
think that is poor men that loot pension plans and pull off Enron type scams. Consider
this: If you take a company's goods or services without paying, that's called "theft".
But if a company takes your money without providing the agreed upon goods or services,
that's called "business"!

18. oh, these repigs are disgusting, and vile.
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 11:14 PM by alyce douglas
throwing the american people just scraps, this stimulus package is not going to help the economy, and will do damage to alot of people, the repigs again show how half ass they real are, and they will screw the Dems from doing any necessary amendments to this stimulus package. What just to push this so this ass of man can look good at the SOTU, think again george, oh wait he doesn't think.

this quote from Boehner: what a hypocrite he is?? he is the same man who said something about our soldiers paying a small price. Now he's worried about American families?? Give me a break, Bonehead.

"Families and small businesses need help now, and this agreement shouldn't be derailed because of partisan politics," he said. Democrats have said they do not consider their concerns about the bill to be partisan politics.
