Harry Reid while just now answering questions at the National Press Club where he and Speaker Pelosi gave speeches, when asked where FISA stands because of the games the Republicans are playing made this statement, "Either Pres. Bush can extend the FISA law or he can go without it".

3. What it means is the Repukes are blocking again!
Yesterday, they tried to pass Leahy's bill, which did NOT contain the TELCO IMMUNITY that Bush wants. So, with the help of a whole bunch of the 'enabler' Dems, it was shot down by 60-37. Now Repukes want to get in their own version, but can't get past Dems. Sooooo!

4. from what i understand--even if it doesn't pass, the "law" in effect
now will stand for another year! (big emergency, right?)

8. No, the current FISA law expires on Jan 31
Reid wants a short one-month extension, and Bush says no, do it the way I want it, and do it now.
