If Martin Luther King was alive today.........
he would be in the streets....I am speaking at a Celebration of Martin Luther King Day tonight and want some input. HOW would you finish that sentence? I don't want to go negative, though I feel that the wheels have come off the wagon as far as the Movement is Concerned. Please lay it on me if you will!

Remember! Celebrate! Act!

1. He would first be positive, second highlight where there is still need, and third challenge us.
Please let us know about how the Celebration goes!

4. you swallowed that one, eh?.......
"To suggest that Martin could identify with a party that affirms preemptive, predatory war, and whose religious partners hint that God affirms war and favors the rich at the expense of the poor, is to revile Martin," said the Rev. Joseph Lowery, the former president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which the slain civil rights leader helped establish.

7. It was said more tongue in cheek
.... but the fact is that MLK was disdainful of the Democratic party, and was a staunch Republican. To be fair, he had reason to be until LBJ did the right thing on civil rights.

3. If MLK was alive today, he'd be in Gitmo.
This regime would NOT want him playing activist.

5. I would consider
borrowing from Martin's friend Dick Gregory; in his book "Nigger" (1964), chapter VII contains sections of a speech Dick gave in Selma, based on the theme "If Jesus were alive today, he would be ...."

8. It remains
one of the single best chapters of that period. Dick Gregory's speech was right on target. I'll be curious to know if it is helpful.
