Too many years in the Senate calcifies the brain?
The language and habits become ingrained in the long-term Senators. Some folks thought this was a problem with Senator Dodd in the last election. He could not stop speaking like a Senator. John McCain, besides just his age, suffers from the same calcification, in my opinion. I think it hurt John Kerry in his last election. This is why it is so difficult for long-term Senators to win.

I do believe that short-term or one-term Senators can recover from this disability. I do not think Obama, Edwards, or Hillary suffers from this yet. Perhaps one more term? This is just my opinion.

1. Hows come Biden doesn't talk that way?
He sounds pretty damn normal to me. I actually like listening to him. Even when he is bullshitting me.

2. I think it affected Biden to some degree...
With the need to compromise with his "good friends" like Senator Lugar and others. However, he was able to mostly maintain his sanity over the years. He is an exception for long-term Senators, I think?
