Is Hillary the only major Democrat on the ballot in Michigan?
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 09:51 AM by kentuck
Does that mean she will get all those Michigan delegates? It seems Obama and Edwards had withdrawn from the Michigan primary because of the controversy with the primary and the DNC? Anyone know more about this situation?

1. YEs she'll get them. I don't think Obama and Edwards should have withdrawn...
they really should have stayed on the ballot and not campaigned there like Clinton did.

2. No I don't think so
the Michigan delegates were barred from the Convention IIRC for scheduling their primary too early, as were the Florida delegates.

3. If the DNC sits those delegates, it will lose all credibility in the future.

7. If I understand it correctly
The DNC has the overall responsibility of organizing the convention and setting up the rules regarding the convention and the way the delegates are seated.

Because Michigan and Florida scheduled their primaries before they were supposed to, not primarily by fault of the Democrats, The DNC, following the Democratic Party bylaws, does not have to nor will they allow delegates from those States to attend the convention.

8. Then that would mean it would be more difficult for Hillary or Obama...
to get the necessary delegates to be nominated??

9. I am voting UNCOMMITED. Edwards, Obama, Richardson, Biden supporters should do the same.

10. The Dem primary in Michigan doesn't count.
I'm voting undecided, I'm fairly certain, just in case the nominee gets those delegates, but it's really sounding more and more like we don't count at all up here for the Dems. The whole stupid mess also violates GOP rules, but they're only taking away half of the delegates from Michigan, so the Republicans are campaigning here, fundraising here, getting up ads and signs, and having supporters put together public rallies.

Honestly, I think it's going to make winning the GE massively difficult for the Dem nominee. It's turned off a lot of Dems here and gotten a lot of Michiganders pissed off. We're already down from a crappy economy and such, so kicking us and then saying they still want our votes in the GE is just disgusting. I have been a huge Dean fan all along, and while I realize this all was engineered by our party higher-ups and the DNC, I don't like how he's assuming we'll stay a blue state. We're not that blue, and if enough Dems stay home in disgust, the state will go to the GOP nominee, especially if it's McCain.
