Olbermann Has Something To Say About Cooper, Beck, & Grace
Heads up on this! Thanks to TV Newser:

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/

The new issue of Rolling Stone, hitting newsstands today in NY & LA and Friday nationwide, includes a feature about Keith Olbermann written by Mark Binelli. There's a sidebar where Olbermann rates the media's biggest anchors, and he's particularly scathing in his comments about these competitors:

Olbermann on...

Anderson Cooper: "...He is the only person who has not been informed that he is a marketing experiment."

Glenn Beck: "A wolf in sheep's clothing. A very dangerously bigoted guy who's selling himself as a pragmatic philosopher. I don't think he sees his own bigotry. There's something about him that suggests one night he will say something that costs him his career in television."

Nancy Grace: "Anybody who would embellish the story of their own fiance's murder should spend that hour a day not on television but in a psychiatrist's chair. Really."

13. He got trashed pretty good in the French Quarter
during Mardi Gras Festivities yesterday. A guy was dressed up like Anderson Cooper wearing a mask and carrying a sign Anderson Cooperhead. Spose to be a snake (copperhead). The sign had many examples of how Cooper and other media darlings did wrong by New Orleans after katrina and generally spewed venom. The guy entered the Bourbon Street Awards for best costume, and while he did not win he got a rousing round of applause (by a bunch of drunks, having a good time, who would applaud paint drying.)

15. He replaced Aaron Brown because he was
supposed to be more "hip" and to appeal to "cooler" and younger audiences. He is still doing what they deem to be hipper and cooler things which, alas, include very little news...

9. I think it's a personal issue he has with Cooper
Anderson may be a media darling but he's exposed many things in parts of the world where most anchors won't go.

I've been hearing that Olbermann's beef with Cooper is personal. Supposedly Olbermann thinks Cooper stole his idea for 360.

If this is true I wish that KO would let that go.

17. what do you mean?
isn't 360 just like every other news show (except it has Cooper)? Or did AC steal the name?

31. Supposedly Olbermann pitched his show to CNN
It was the Countdown show that he is doing now and it was named 360. Supposedly shortly after he pitched the show it was given to Anderson Cooper, with the name 360. I don't know if this is true. I'm not sure what Aaron Brown's show was called which Cooper took over.

23. Like what exactly
Anderson was great during Katrina. He is lighter than a feather - depth and anaylsis aremissing big time. But he's gorgeous and CNN thought that would help the ratings. I miss Aaron Brown.

29. Curiously enough, I think it was Aaron Brown who made Anderson
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 06:47 PM by Morgana LaFey
Cooper possible.

Brown was a journalistic heavyweight, and Cooper -- against that backdrop -- was rather appealing, or so I thought. It was salt and pepper; yin and yang, the like. They were foil for one another (without trying to be). But once Brown was gone, Anderson was TOO lightweight, too fluffy, at least for my taste. There were things about Brown I really liked, and things I wasn't so crazy about. But CNN is much worse off for his absence. Much. Anderson Cooper will NEVER make up the gravitas that it lost when they let Brown go.

OTOH, I have a feeling Cooper isn't near the arrogant smartass that Brown was. Lots of DUers complained that while he answered emails himself, his responses left a lot to be desired in the basic humanity and civility dept.

33. Nooo, not in the way he was arrogant
I'd in general agree (sorta) with your premise, but he would regularly treat people writing to him in very demeaning, supercilious ways. Unnecessary. One and 2-word answers and others not unlike the sentiment expressed so well by W: "Who cares what you think?" Unnecessary, and NOT supported by his talent, skills, and abilities. None of the true GREATs would behave that way. In fact, the greater you are, the more humility you typically exhibit. Think: Helen Thomas. Bill Moyer. Walter Cronkite. Molly Ivins. et. al.

12. Anybody wanna guess what Glenn Beck's response will be?
I'm guessing he'll say he's a recovering alcoholic. I don't know the relevance of it, either, but he seems to mention that every 7.4 seconds or so. I guess he feels that's his "Be a bigoted asshole" card he can whip out at a moment's notice. That works a lot better than "I'm a pudgy Mormon who makes more than you little people ever will by talking about things I know nothing about," I guess.

14. good guess
Its funny for a guy who complains about other people not being responsible or bringing the troubles on themselves somehow he always thinks that "I'm an alcoholic" shit excuses or gives him license to say what he likes no matter how many people he offends

I've just been waiting for the day when Beck pushes it too far and gets thrown back to his little radio show where he belongs.

Grace is just horrible...here's a little clip where Elizabeth Smart basically tells Nancy to STFU...LOL!

They are all hidden away inside her flaring nostrils of death. One sneeze, and hundreds of families could be reunited with their loved ones.
