Another case of the bu$h regime not supporting our troops.
Essentially what they are saying is the British troops are better than the American troops because they were able to get the Iraqi's to take control of the areas that British troops were charged.

Furthermore, what is all this talk doing about emboldening the enemy? HA!

2. whoopsies CBS news let it slip last night
that Basra has become more violent in the last few months. Anyone with a functioning brain would realize that this line from the WH is pure bullshit as usual.

The Brits pretty much had to deal with crime and Brit-haters (the Iraqis are still pissed about the British administration after WWI). They weren't in an area with much sectarian diversity or supporters of the Saddam regime. Plenty of clan-on-clan action, but not the sort of sectarian civil war you see in central Iraq, or the hardcore Sunni insurgency in the west.

Like anyone with a working brain, Blair has figured out that the occupation is a major contributing factor to the violence, and is getting out of the Iraqis' way. Most of the American military has concluded the same thing, but the neocons are going to be chanting "Victory or Death!" until January 2009.

On the plus side, Bush is pretty much guaranteeing a Democratic president in the next election; the military vote alone will just about seal that.
