Cheney says U.S. wants to leave Iraq "with honour"
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday the United States wants to finish its mission in Iraq and "return with honour", despite the war's growing unpopularity at home and doubts among U.S. allies.

(snip)
In a speech delivered aboard the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier at Yokosuka Navy Base near Tokyo, Cheny said: "We know that terrorist attacks are not caused by the use of strength, they are invited by the perception of weakness."

"We know that if we leave Iraq before the mission is completed, the enemy is going to come after us. And I want you to know that the American people will not support a policy of retreat," he added.

"We want to complete the mission, we want to get it done right, and we want to return with honour," said Cheney, who heads on Thursday for Australia to meet Prime Minister John Howard, another staunch supporter of Bush's Iraq policy.

10. The big difference is Viêtnam didn't sit on 200 billion barrels of oil.
If Iraq basically turns into a bad remake of Mad Max, the region and the world will feel the shockwaves reverberate across the world for a century.

the sad part is that many of the younger folks will go SHOOSH, since they don't teach no history no more in them darn cute schools

And I don't blame the teachers for it either...

I think Cheney is the modern version of Nixon. He's very much like Nixon in a lot of ways. He's very awkward socially, just like Nixon. I think we've been slowly finding out that Libby was Cheney's Haldeman and Ehrlichman.

Only Cheney, unlike Nixon, did not go for the top spot, but decided to be the power behind the throne. He lets Bush go out there and act like President, and take the heat. Bush is perfect, because he's a nice guy, even though he's dumber than a brick. Cheney controlled, and may still control Bush, by feeding him bad information.

16. Libby Haldelman and Erlichman
now that gives me the creeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That said, I politely disagree, mostly since I have talked to some young, as in recent graduates of our wonderful schools.

They know it is Fucked Up, but Nixon was not only in another decade, but another milllennia and that is when they even know who you are talking about

As one kid put it, teachers usually stopped their survey of Modern US History on August 15th of 1945... because that was on the test.

And as I said I don't blame the kids

Also I will add something else, the American People are in general very much historically unaware and in general (does not apply to DU and some other sites by the way), you are lucky if they remember what happened last year, let alone over thirty years ago

My personal rant since my masters is in history and my personal frustration.

19. You say "Bush is perfect, because he's a nice guy"
Yeah, that's right. The kind of "nice guy" who mocks people as he murders them. The kind of "nice guy" who spends his childhood inserting firecrackers in frogs' anuses in order to blow them up. Not to mention Iraq. Your idea of a "nice guy" is rather odd.

Or Gen. Buck Turgidson.
