Just a question: Will 2007 live on as the year of the downfall of America?
Or simply the worst year of American Democracy?

Or what's your thoughts on the year?

1. I fear we ain't seen nothin' yet
We'll be looking back on 2007 as the Good Old Days.

I so desperately hope that I'm wrong.

2. I think it officially started in 2000.
That's the year that the presidential vote was not decided by the people. Instead, it was decided by only 9 members of the SCOTUS.

Oh, it will get worse, but that is when it started for me.

6. Yup. It started in 2000, but it started SLOWLY...
Let the record show:
In 2007, I was still accumulating rusty metal and empty wine bottles.

Come 2027, that sentence will be completely understandable in hindsight.

4. Depends on whether we get a president who can project
the energy and optimism we need to join together and face our challenges as a nation.

I believe Edwards is that president. When he talks about being a fighter, he is talking about losing himself in the interest of the cause he serves, which is helping middle class and poor Americans. We all know the feeling. It's when you forget yourself because you are helping someone else. That is what Edwards' campaign is about right now. That is why he says this presidential run is not about him, it's about all Americans.

There is a theory that people always act out of self-interest. I do not agree. People do act out of interest for others. Many people are capable of finding their greatest joy, their most rewarding moments when they are helping others, or when they are acting in the interest of others.

For the religious who are of a Judeo-Christian faith, this is an experience of feeling the love of God and acting out of that love toward others with love. For those of other belief systems, this feeling exists when they reach a state as close to possible without ego. People who do not believe in God can also feel this same egoless state of love. It is what has motivated great individuals throughout history to sacrifice and to work for the best interests of others.

2008 will be worse than 2007. The Bush administration is totally depressed and in disarray. And the reason for their fall is that they were only about self-interest, never about the common good, never about caring for others. The Bushies have no ideals. Underneath it all, they only believe in their own self-interest. I believe that John Edwards can inspire the nation to once again pursue ideals. Some of the other candidates would also do that, but I believe John Edwards is the best in this regard. We have to take our country back if we want to recover from the horror of the Bush administration.

10. 2007 Is Certainly A Watershed Year
The point where all deceptions fail and the horror of the crimes is revealed, the point where people had to pick up their heads and decide what kind of world their children were going to have...

it feels like 1973, without the impeachment.

11. The clattering fall down the stairs began in 2000, with the bloodless coup d'etat
We've been crashing downhill ever since, in an appalling display of self-inflicted destruction of our democracy.
