1981: Dan Quayle assumed office as Senator from Indiana.
1989: Dan Quayle left office as Senator from Indiana.
2001: Hillary Rodham Clinton assumed office as Senator from New York.
2005: John Edwards left office as Senator from North Carolina.
2005: Barack Obama assumed office as Senator from Illinois.
2008: Three Senators with less experience in the Senate* than Dan Quayle vie for high office in Iowa.

It was Bush 1 that didn't understand how supermarket checkout lines worked, and there is so much material about his offspring that we don't need an explanation there... Explains how Dan got the job to start with!
