Certainly Bush is flying to Washington DC from Crawford. Right?
Surely with Bhutto's assassination and storm clouds brewing he is winging his way to the Capitol to have high-level meetings with his cabinet, then discussing at length with Dr. Rice what our next step should be. Being that Pakistan and her hundred nuclear weapons are in a region growing more unstable by the day, we can rest easy knowing that Bush has contacted our allies asking for their input and aid in stabilizing the situation. Right?

I'm sure that by now Bush has contacted the campaigns of both the Republican and Democratic front-runners, urging national solidarity at this crucial time, and making clear that using Bhutto's murder as a campaign talking-point is not only vulgar but counterproductive to our national interest. This is all occurring, please tell me.

Bush has put down his chainsaw and bourbon long enough to consider that the world community and the United Nations must be considered a tool in impressing upon Musharref that elections must take place as soon as possible, and that the propped-up current administration is making Pakistan more dangerous, and that nuclear weapons falling into religious extremist's hands is not an acceptable outcome. He's doing all this, right? Right?

Right?

Although with only a year left and no serious impeachment threat looming I don't think his keepers give a shit.

5. You know Bush is pissed
How dare that lady, messin' up his vacation! I know there are some here at DU who think that Bush would like to suspend elections and maintain his presidency indefinitely. I totally disagree. This assclown can't wait until January 20. 2009. His mission has already been accomplished.

11. Heard he may be holding a NSC meeting tomorrow ... in Crawford.
Members of the NSC will, of course, be flown in at government expense. That could be pretty $$$.

Seeing as how these folks are on vacation.

14. Bush's impulse will be to remain in Crawford --
-- unless the press shames him into a more significat, ceremonial-style statement on the assassination.

--and to clear more brush. You know it just grows like a damn weed, and Bush is a rough-and-tough cowboy and likes to clear it himself. Have Suzanne Malveaux git some pictures and run it on the cable news how rough-and-tough Dubya is. Quite a gal, that Suzanne Malveaux.

--and there may even be a bottle of some firewater stashed here and there down on the ranch, well beyond serious press scrutiny. More booze, fewer pretzels. That's the ticket.

--besides which, he's had somebody call sweet Condi to handle this. Condi doesn't appear to have much else to do anyway, so she can handle the Bhutto thing whie Dubya clears brush and boozes it up real secret-like.

--and Dick will do all the rest of whatever it is you do in a case like this.

--which is no big deal anyway, since Dubya's only real chore now is to run out the clock. It's hard work cheatin' for two straight elections. Time to kick back and enjoy life a little.

25. Having elections as soon as possible is probably the worst
outcome. Without Bhutto and now that the other opposition leader has pulled out, Musharaff's election would practically be guaranteed.

Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 08:52 AM by RamboLiberal
IMHO his flying back to D.C. and holding cabinet meetings now would help fuel this is an international crisis! I'd rather see U.S. stay cool for now and give this a couple of days to play out. Now if it does escalate then I'd be more critical if he continues on vacation.

But I would also hope that there are those in D.C. who need to be in the loop have quietly come back to work and not stayed on Xmas vacation.
