2. Rebirth of the light
I stayed up to watch it live at newgrange but it was cloudy. Luckily they had taped it the day before. It was beautiful.

4. Hallelujah!
I celebrate the day when sunset gets a bit later (gradual though it is) each day. Winter depression is the pits!

13. I always think about what winters must have been like before central heating.
If my great grandparents slogged through the winter cold with just a wood stove I certainly can with my gas furnace and indoor bathroom.

10. I'm not sure where you are, but the Pacific Northwest has been dismal--
not only are the days extremely short, but the constant clouds and rain this year have been depressing. My body is actually craving sun the way I craved tangerines when I was pregnant.

11. I'm in Germany, the sun has been out all week
it's great, but it's freaking COLD. I guess I should be happy we have sunshine, if only for about 8 hours a day. :hi:

15. Sunrise: 8:00 am, Sunset: 5:03 pm ... here in Mitchigun. (sigh)
As a sun-lover, this is enforced celibacy. I must have chlorophyll in my genetic make-up. :(

18. way back when I lived in inner city Detroit I pined for sun in the winter

days would go by without a hint of sun. when it finally shone the TV and radio would be alive with 'the sun is shining today' energy.

only lived there a couple of yrs. but never forgot the gray winter days. and the nice as pie Detroiters.

In my town on the winter solstice:
Sunrise 7:26 AM
Sunset 4:48 PM

Of course it is supposed to be close to 60 tomorrow which is weird for late December.

on the trees around the capitol. that's strange. and they were that way last year too. didn't lose their leaves until sometime in Jan.

23. Yay! After Christmas I will start plowing through my rose and gardening
books and brochures, planning my next rearrangement of my garden. Always helps lift me out of the winter doldrums to look at "rose porn".

leaving out the veg. garden, I only planted perennial plants, grown from my seed bed.

now I only have space for a few potted plants. pooie.
