Robert Novak: Chuch Norris Is Huckabee's Oprah!!!
Huckabee's Oprah

By Robert D. Novak
Saturday, December 15, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Republican insiders, puzzled by the sudden rise of Mike Huckabee as a serious presidential candidate, are overlooking the role played for him by actor Chuck Norris.

Called "Huckabee's Oprah" in Hollywood, Norris is helping the former governor of Arkansas in much the same way that Oprah Winfrey boosts Sen. Barack Obama's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Huckabee began his ascent from the depths of the second tier of candidates after his endorsement in late October by Norris, called the "marshal of martial arts."

Norris's endorsement is featured in a Huckabee TV ad, which his money-short campaign has run mainly in Iowa and on the Internet. Norris may be no big deal in New York and Washington, but he is a folk hero with ordinary Iowans and has helped push Huckabee ahead of Mitt Romney in polls forecasting the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses. The Norris endorsement may be a bigger factor in Iowa than evangelical support for Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister.

- I'm sure Oprah is thrilled by the comparison....

5. Post hoc ergo propter hoc
Chuck Norris endorse huckelberry.

Huckelberry begins to rise in polls.

Therefore chuck norris endorsement is responsible for huckelberry's rise in polls.

Most of us learned about logical fallacies in high school. Guess novakula must have been sick that day.

6. Can't be. The RWers hate it when celebrities get involved in politics, doncha' know.
People Against Hollywood Getting Involved in Politics

To: Mike Farrell and Anjelica Huston
We the average (non know it all self righteous) people of the United States of America ask that those movie stars and has-been movie stars alike that fancy themselves as political activist please cease and desist your anti-war efforts immediately. We ask that you stop driving a wedge into the unity of the American people. Please stop imposing your views on us. Your celebrity status doesn’t make you experts in the ways of politics. In particular, we ask that the following people go back to entertaining and leave the politics to those that are in office.

• Mike Farrell
• Anjelica Huston
• Kim Basinger
• Matt Damon
• Laurence Fishburne
• Ethan Hawke
• Uma Thurman
• Jessica Lange
• Samuel L. Jackson
• Martin Sheen
• Tim Robbins
• Susan Sarandon
• Barbra Streisand

I think it's safe to say we all hope for a world of peace with out war. A place where we don't need to send our troops into battle and a place where innocent men, women and children don't die. Those ideas are all well and good, but to stick to that view point and to not except that at times war is the only avenue is naive and childish. War, in the case of Iraq is probable but not definite. Mr. Bush and the UN are working to a peaceful resolution. But we must be realistic and we must be ready to do what needs to be done. Different view points are great, that’s one of the freedoms we enjoy in the USA. But what these people are doing only works to undermine our sense of unity and portrays a divided nation to the rest of the world. The views of a few famous people seem larger than the views of your average American but that’s only because they get the media spotlight. I know this petition won’t do a thing. I know these celebrities will not read it, and even if they did, it wouldn’t change a thing. But I just wanted to tell them all to shut the hell up. I’m so sick and tired of them thinking their view points matter more because they have fame. They think that they can do a better job of running the country because they can act or sing. Our society has given these people too much clout and their egos have over developed because of that. They’re actors for God’s sake, not teachers, scientist or any other big thinkers. They don’t even have real jobs! It’s like a court jester telling the king how to run his kingdom! Well, this is my way of trying to level the playing field, to take some wind out of their sails and letting them know that their crap stinks like the rest of ours. Please quiet down and let the politicians and generals do their jobs and try to stay out of the way! Go back to juggling little jesters or just sit quietly in the corner and behave!

7. As an "ordinary Iowan", I must say this
I am getting sick of all these Washington DC insiders and others telling us and the world what we like and don't like. Let me set the record straight; I've lived here my entire life and think I qualify as an "ordinary Iowan" who has a blue collar job and is trying to get by.
I've seen some Chuck Norris movies, and actually enjoyed them, although his tv show stinks. I've watched the Oprah show a few times and am not a huge fan. But saying Norris is a "Folk hero" among all us ordinary Iowans is a bunch of shit. Enjoying a guy's movie and thinking of him as a folk hero are two different things. Novak and all other non-Iowans would be well advised to remember that. One more thing, just because I don't care much for Oprah's tv show doesn't mean I have no respect for what she's done in the past. I just think her show is geared more toward women and I don't like talk shows in general anyway, except for Olbermann which isn't really a talk show.
