Poll question: Did Dodd's stand today make you reconsider his Presidential run?

In case you haven't heard:

Dodd's filibuster threat scuttles immunity in Senate, for now
Nick Juliano

Senate to return to controversial FISA update after new year

After nearly 10 hours of discussion Monday, the Senate decided to delay a final vote on a controversial domestic spying bill until the new year, under the threat of a protracted filibuster from Sen. Chris Dodd.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spent the afternoon Monday huddling with Senate leaders and fellow Democrats to try to work out a deal over an update to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. As the FISA update was written, it included a provision for legal immunity to telecommunications companies that facilitated a warrantless wiretapping scheme that Dodd and other Democrats said was illegal.

I have seen recently, it is a beacon in the night to see someone stand up and fight.

At the very least I might send his campaign a few bucks.

But Dodd deserves our respect today. You might say that he gets it. He left Iowa to threaten filibuster and for that he gives me hope. I really needed some of that today.

Edit to say: I hope it makes Bush throw up in his mouth a little tonight and somewhat fux up his xmas.

4. He still isn't my first choice because I prefer Edwards,
but I like him much better. I watched C-Span 2 and was very impressed with Dodd. I really care about the issues of corruption and protecting constitutional rights. I like Edward's strong stance on these issues. I think Dodd and Edwards would make a good team. I had favored Edwards and Obama, but I have not heard Obama speak out enough on these issues that matter so much to me. Dodd showed a lot of courage, and that really impressed me.

15. Here's something you may not know about Dodd - he began his service in the Peace Corps
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 08:52 PM by Mark Twain Girl
This is a good article:

http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071109/FRONTPAGE/711090323

I know this because one my colleagues at work is an avid Peace Corps alumnus, who believes in the program intensely and vocally. When she talks about politics, the first words out of her mouth, "Did you know Chris Dodd, who wants to be president, was in the Peace Corps?" :)

20. *sigh* No. Before you flame me...please read.
It's great he did this. I've called and left my thanks to him for doing so.

Even he noted in his various comments and speeches today that he and others had let a "lot of little things" "culminate" in what we have today. That's great he and maybe some of them can see that. It's very rewarding to me that some of our Democrats are starting to see what many of us have warned about for several decades; not me personally; there were many who came before me; I just picked up their torch and continued; in short, I "listened to my elders". I'm concerned that he and those others didn't see what was so apparent to me and those who came before me.

I'm not slamming Senator Dodd in the least. We are at a juncture in our nation's history in which we need people who can see the forest AND the trees. Senator Dodd may be getting there. That's a start.

I'm still undecided as to which candidate I support. One issue, one good battle fought well and won, does not create a pattern from which I can choose.

In the meantime, please be sure to thank Senator Dodd for what he did for us today. His contact information is posted to many threads here tonight.

25. I had to vote no here
I already liked Chris Dodd before this (thanks to the DU-sponsored education :)), and would happily vote for him in the GE if he were to win the nomination. The biggest problem for me with the Democratic lineup is one I know the Republicans just wish they had - with so many excellent choices in the primary, it is tough to pick just ONE of the candidates to back. The closest fit for my own (Green) agenda is still Dennis Kucinich, but Biden, Dodd, and Edwards are also great candidates.

40. I chose "yes" because the time for narrowing down our
choices is upon us. I was fully Kucinich when it became clear Gore was not running. But it's also time to be practical. DK getting the nom is a stretch. Now, I'm thinking Biden and then Dodd. Clinton is out (I had an extremly personal encounter with both Clintons while in college in Arkasas going back to 1982. Loved Bill from the jump. Never cared too much for Hillary though. And I'll leave it at that). Richardson is out also. Though I like Obama and feel he is a talented orator and has charisma, I'm not confident in his experience. Edwards is the wildcard.

Seems I'm leaning towards our most experienced candidates. Dodd was incredible today.

43. I said no, only because I've been considering him for some time now.
He thouroughly impressed me with his no nonsense approach but one aimed in the right direction. Note that in one debate, he and Biden talked about the need to focus on Pakistan instead of the assumed threats a week before that went on the radar with Pervez going all Bush. I'm for Edwards right now, but if in a long shot Dodd got it, I couldn't be happier. In a sane world, the field would be flipped-Dodd, Kucinich and Biden would be the front runners and H. Clinton would be the laughingstock currently occupied by Gravel.

Dodd would also give the pubs conniption fits because he looks like he should be a conservative. It might make their meager minds 'splode.

If this winds up as just a speed bump before the bill's eventual passage, I'll sigh and label it a stunt. If Dodd's stand is a permanent one, I could vote for him in the primary, maybe.

Leadership! If we focus energy anywhere, it should be to remove Reid as an utterly impotent leader who derails our efforts at every turn.

Now Dodd, he'd rock in a leadership role!

As far as being prez, I'm sure he would do a great job --- but at this late date he can neither win or come close to getting enough $$$ to compete at the national level.

I'm leaning Edwards and Edwards has a realistic chance to win (better than Hillary!).
