17. That is the textbook definition.
"The American National Bureau of Economic Research defines a recession more ambiguously as "a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months.""
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recession

Which alternative definition gets around the more than idle speculation that our government is cooking the books to keep things officially low inflation and non-recession.

I dont know the definition of a recession, but the finacial guy on the radio says, for some reason, it cannot be declared until you have been through it. So we wont know if we are having one now, until later

off to get my injections :hi:

13. "They" might...
Be waiting until the NasDaq, Dow Jones, or S&P 500 are below their numbers in March, or there's significant economic issues crossing the whole economy, or there are significant economic issues for a large section of the economy for more than six months.

15. Weird--MARTHA STEWART almost said it this morning--no lie.
I turned the tube on and it was just coming on. She blathered about having dinner the night before with the CEO of Bank of America, then said something about "I don't know how you feel about bankers, and I know we're almost in a recession..."

Truly a banner :wtf: moment.

I hope someone has video; I was dumbstruck.
