Potrero voters eject 5 members of planning board who voted for Blackwater West
In a special election held by mail because of the recent wildfires in the area, Potrero residents have ousted five members of a planning council who approved the Blackwater West development last December. The five replacement members voted in at the same time are all against the proposed development by Blackwater. The vote by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors is expected sometime in 2008, and that is the only hurdle left for the development. Concerned citizens should write or send e-mail to all 5 San Diego County supervisors. The property lies within Dianne Jacob's district, and she has been said to rarely vote in contradiction to a local planning council's decision.

1. I am SO glad they did that.
This was posted this morning by the morning crowd. I'm glad it's getting reposted for the evening people.

Blackwater needs to get their mercenary asses kicked to the curb. We shouldn't have any use for mercenaries in the US, or for people that support the use of mercenaries.

2. It's still not over, though.
The real power in this decision belongs to the five San Diego County Board of Supervisors, and informally in particular with Supervisor Dianne Jacob, whose district the property is located in. Pressure must be put on her and the other 4 supervisors to reject the proposed project, because if they vote "yes" on it, then it's virtually a done deal.

3. Wow. That would truly suck. Is she vulnerable
to getting tossed out?

5. She's been in office since time began, so I don't see her as vulnerable. I have
seen her once in person, eating lunch at the restaurant right next to Lake Cuyamaca, with three men in business suits. This was about 2 years ago and I don't think it had anything to do with Blackwater. It was probably some developers who wanted to build a new housing development somewhere in the backcountry. As they were leaving, she smiled nervously at me as she passed our table, even though I don't know her and have never met her. Maybe the fact that I was looking at her and recognized her made her nervous. I was sitting there wondering, what is she doing here with those men? Some sort of secret deal? All of her work is supposed to be done in the public eye. She has still made no public comment about the Blackwater proposal. I am just hoping that the planning council will make another vote on it, even if symbolic, to show the county board of supervisors what they really think about it. Maybe that will put pressure on them to reject it.

4. I am SO glad I left San Diego after 60 + years.
Happy on the Southern Oregon Coast.
