OK, that's it (Kiriakou, CIA shill)
He just claimed that he has not cleared any of his appearances re waterboarding with CIA.

I just heard him say it to Dan Abrams.

8. Thank you! I'll check it out. Yes, major spinning.
Intelligence community in some kind of match with the White House? They've taken so many falls for Bush, hard to believe they're willing to go down again.

DUer Windy sent this to me.

Even tho I have had no dealings with those guys for some years, their methodology - their modus operandi - never changes. And that is their Achilles Heel.

14. The thing that struck me reading (because I haven't seen him)
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 09:44 PM by sfexpat2000
was that Hayden says the tapes were destroyed to protect CIA interrogators and this guy says the torture was contracted out.

So, who are they protecting? CIA or contractors that they all want to work for when they retire? Does it even matter? There's cross contamination here between the two.

Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 09:40 PM by noise
it sounded like a script. A debate? After years of propaganda, deceit, fearmongering and authoritarianism it is time for a public debate on torture? Yeah right. What an asshole.

11. Indeed, his apparent schtick is to...
say waterboarding was a successful tool for gleaning information. The complete opposite of what other intel officers have said. Also, he was for waterboarding before he was against it.

23. Me, neither. He sounded completely unconvincing. He thinks it's good that we did waterboarding
because it saved a whole shitload of lives and got us really good information (yeah, right); but he doesn't think
we should do it anymore. No, because the times, they are a-changing'...and now we don't need to do those icky-type
things anymore. But we did need to, when we did them. (Okay, Dick? How'm I doin', George?)

He wasn't there when Abuzaida (sp?) was water-boarded, but he claims that the prisoner gave it up after 35 seconds. And he knows this, HOW?

And he says he hasn't spoken to anyone at the CIA about going public. He just decided, like a big grown-up boy, and went ahead and booked himself
on every talk show and every channel, to say the same things over and over. Wha-aa-a----t? Tell me another!

25. Meet John Kiriakou, Water Torturer Extraordinaire
Meet John Kiriakou
Dec 11, 2007 - http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/13880.html

There have been many, many reports in recent years about Bush administration officials torturing detainees, and using barbaric tactics like waterboarding, but insiders have been reluctant to admit publicly and on the record exactly what we’ve done and to whom.

It’s one of several reasons why John Kiriakou’s perspective is of unique significance.

.......

As a matter of crass politics, Kiriakou’s assessment seems to offer a little something for everyone. For the right, Kiriakou is saying that torture produced intelligence that saved lives and thwarted possible attacks. For the left, Kiriakou is conceding that the Bush administration authorized and utilized torture (i.e., committed a felony), and he now believes the U.S. should stop using these “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

There is, however, one angle that warrants a closer look: whether torturing Zubaydah actually produced actionable intelligence. The answer is far from clear.

.....

To hear the president tell it, Zubaydah, after being subjected to an “alternative set of procedures,” was a font of useful information .....
