Gonzales City Council (LA) bans saggy pants - $50 fine for the first offense
Gonzales bans saggy pants

Without discussion or fanfare, the Gonzales City Council has unanimously passed an ordinance prohibiting people from showing their underwear in public.

Police chief Bill Landry says the city's new "saggy pants" ordinance takes effect immediately.
....

No one from the American Civil Liberties Union attended the meeting even though the group sent city officials a November 14th letter asking them not to pass a saggy pants law, saying it would be unconstitutional.

The punishment for breaking the law is a $50 fine for the first offense, a $150 fine for the second offense, and a $500 fine and up to two days of community service for a third offense.

1. Oh my goodness, this city council has its head up it collective ass. I
wonder how much action they take on the homeless and the hungry in their fair city.

I'm not a big fan of baggy pants myself. But I don't care about it, I ignore it.

These people have their priorities in the same place they're heads are at.

4. Here's how we deal with it...
Although we see very little of that kind of dress here, we just ignore the idiots.

Sure, they can come across the Bridge from Oakland or Richmond and slouch around with their pants down if they want.

But they better not plan on eating or ordering anything to drink. And we have no convenience stores in our Town (or gas stations or drugstores, either).

And the grocery store won't let them enter (citing "Health Codes").

So they have nothing to do but roam all two blocks of our sidewalks.

Ordinance? We don't need no steenking ordinance.

14. It's unconstitutional, totally - but it's also right, totally. Second offense should be execution.
