My backyard and my front yard
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 02:28 PM by Skidmore
Since I started uploading these, you can add two limbs down from the first tree in the backyard and two additional limbs on the front yard tree. Pray for the safety of my gate arbor...I can't afford to replace it now.

My back yard

My front yard:

Otherwise we are fine. How's everyone else doing.

It is miserable.

24. Looks like it could be right near Monroe or Newton.
It's beautiful. Reminds me of my childhood.

4. It actually looks pretty... if you don't have to be on the road
and if your property is not under the tree limbs and if your power is not cut off.

And I have to ask, again, whether burying power lines underground, while expensive, will not beat all the damages by them being above ground.

I really felt bad for many who could not afford not to show up to work and had to be on these icy roads.

Hey, give me a snow storm anytime over this.

11. Our village actually has buried power lines so we don't
have to worry about them coming down. We just have lots of big trees.

23. We used to live in a neighborhood where the power lines were buried
and believe it or not, we had more power outages there than where we live now with overhead lines. The main station that fed our neighborhood would go out when we had bad thunderstorms and ice storms like we are having today.

I did like having our cable TV lines buried though. It never went out and it goes out here way too often.

5. Wow!
It is sunny and
freaking 79 degrees
here in Eastern NC.
The humidity is at 80%
so it actually feels
hotter. Sure does
not feel like December.
Our temps today are
predicted to break records
for our area.

7. Ice storms are gorgeous when the first rays of sunlight hit them
but then it's dash for cover time because all that ice starts to fall.

Sorry about that fence. Getting out there now and pushing that limb of Damoclese away from the arbor might save it.

one ice storm and it was paralyzing -- we're thinking of you!

10. It's supposed to change over to sleet and snow this afternoon.
I guess that's considered an improvement. Just now our neighbor's very big tree lost a big section. I just missed our house on the SW side. A little further this way and I could have had new kitchen cupboards. :)

12. Damn, Skidmore....
If you feel any Good Luck Vibes coming to you from the West, those would be the ones that I am sending out the window right now.

Speaking as one who has been through hurricanes, typhoons, tornadoes, blizzards and ice storms (not to mention close-quarters combat), always keep in mind that your safety and well-being are foremost. Everything else can be replaced, even though that might take some time (and money when you have it).

Buena suerte.

Tom

13. Nice pics - thanks for sharing.
Hope you stay safe.

Just talked to my sister in central Kansas - she has electricity and phones but none of her friends do. They are all coming over to camp out at her house for as long as needed.

Also just talked to a friend in Oklahoma - he has electricity but no phones. He is lucky - 2/3 of the folks in Oklahoma are apparently without electricity.

Meanwhile, here in central N.C. I am running the a/c. In a few weeks the city may run out of water because of the drought.

And people say, there is no such thing as global warming...

15. Freezing rain, rain, sleet and snow here in SE Michigan.
Monday was so slippery I had to walk my daughter to the bus stop by only walking on grassy areas. Any time we had to go on cement we were risking our lives!! My car looks like a big black Jeep Popsicle! It just turned to all rain and it is supposed to go down to 25 degrees tonight. That sounds like fun, eh? Your pics are beautiful, yet horrible all at the same time. I will be praying for you...and for your pretty arbor!

16. Hope your tree's survive but why
are you putting all this "_blank"><img src=" in your pic link?

Just use the direct link from Photo Bucket, with out all that and it should work fine.

Great pics!! :hi: Looks almost like my yard a day ago except only two large branches down.

19. Can you throw a rope around that branch over your Arbor?
tie it off to the side with a high amount of tension, then, maybe if it snaps it will pull off pass the arbor?

Our streets are fine but our trees are scary looking. My cell phone is on and off and I wonder if the tower has ice on it? My internet is going on and off too.
