Do You Think Your State Plays A Role In The Candidate Selection Process?
I live in West Virginia. By the time we vote in our state's primary election it makes no difference at all who wins here. How is it where you live, will you vote make any difference?

1. Somebody has to be last
No reason it shouldn't be my state or yours.

2. I'm in Kansas and
we're going to have the Democratic caucuses on Super Tuesday, so I guess we'll have a say. Although we're relatively small in population, so we probably don't really count all that much.

4. Until this next year, I was in your boat
AR had their primary in May. Now it is Feb. 5. I'm hoping that we go to regional primaries all within weeks of each other.

5. Nope
I live in NJ. One of the most populated and most Blue states in the country - but we are at the mercy of the will of Rethugs in Wyoming. Sucks huh?

I had some great spreadsheets showing population, payment into the IRS, what comes back (by state) and how the elections went. I mean no disrespect to those at DU who live in the 'Red' states because I know it was not their fault . . . but for crying out loud. I think the primaries should take place over the course of one week. And all states should be allowed to participate. . .

But then again - I believe in doing away with the Electoral college and going one person/one vote.

6. No. It's a great argument for a national primary. Not to mention being more democratic.

10. I wish we had a national election day, maybe a few of them and all elections be scheduled on them
have the day off maybe even have parades and such, kind of a festival type day to encourage people to get out and vote. right now about a quarter of the eligible voters make the decisions for all of us, we need to change that

15. That'd make MONEY even more of an advantage.
The primaries should be conducted in electoral settings (state or some subdivision thereof) that permit candidates to get their faces and records in front of the electorate without being multimillionaires.

7. No. Mine won't count either.
I used to think it made a difference when the political conventions were not predetermined. But now it's so bought and paid for.

My vote in the regular election is usually only a vote against the worse candidate, since my real choice is never there.

That is why I support national primaries and instant runoff elections. Maybe my choice will count and maybe I wont have to vote against someone all the time.

And maybe there will be no need for political parties.

8. Being from New Hampshire, I know that mine plays a big role.
I, for one, however, am at a loss to justify why that is. We are a very small state. They say that encourages "retail politics", but in reality, it allows the big machine campaigns to overwhelm our airwaves for months leading up to the primaries. Anyone that thinks a no-name candidate with few resources stands a better chance of emerging from the pack here than they would elsewhere is sadly mistaken. We are 96% white according to the 2000 Census, hardly representative of the nation as a whole. While things are looking up here politically, we are just emerging from the dark ages of sustained libertarian-leaning republicanism. The answer to the question of why the Democratic Party would choose to stage their first-in-the-nation primary here might lie at the heart of the Party's problems. It makes perfect sense for the rEpublicans to look to Iowa and New Hampshire for their figurehead. For the Democrats, not so much...

9. feb 5 for me and I'm not sure if anything good can come from here though
seems like ok fucks up big time on the national level. we get our local elections right every time. Can't remember having a re:puke: local office holder, I'm sure there has been some but I sure can't remember it though, they would definitely be few and far between
