Responses to the atheist display at the Chester County, PA courthouse (from the local paper)
These are both from the "Sound Off" section, in which any knuckle-dragger who can dial a phone gets their thoughs published in the local rag. For those of you just tuning in, the Freethought Society of Philadelphia is erecting an atheist display at the Chester County courthouse, next to the Christmas and Hanukkah displays.

“I think it is a disgrace about the atheists erecting a holiday display. This holiday season is about God, and there is a God. Margaret Downey needs to go. I am appalled. Downey should keep her opinions to herself.”

“This is regarding the Freethought Society and erecting a display for the holidays. Why do atheists need a holiday display? This is a religious time of year. Margaret Downey said the atheists are an integral part of society. Just because you are recognizing your constitutional rights does not mean the rest of society respects you.”

2. What does it look like?

Got a link?

Those other displays (Christmas and Hanukkah) should be in front of churches, not city hall, imho.

My town just has red and white lights on the tree's in front of the townhall. Nothing else.

10. Those straw and net baffle rolls made to slow roadside erosion
would make great 'pasta' substitutes for a large display. For meatballs, we could gather up all the shit the fundies throw around about religion and freedom ;)

4. Just wait 'til they hear the Atheist Carolers in their neighborhood
Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)

And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell

8. Personally I think it is a waste of time for atheists to do this but this argument is funny.
"This is a religious time of year." Oh, so now in addition to "free speech zones" we should have "free speech seasons"? Let's see, does that mean that other than on religious holidays the religious zealots should keep their mouths shut in public? Just asking.

9. They should put a huge dollar sign out as their display. An ode to crass commercialism
It would remind the fundies just how "religious" (cough) this holiday season really is....
