if Obama becomes The Candidate- who would make the best running mate?
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 07:50 AM by QuestionAll
while i could still envision(although not support) a dlc condoned all-corporatist ticket of Clinton/Obama- i don't see the reverse, obama/clinton as a viable option.

for one thing, the tinfoil hat-wearer in me could envision a scenario wherein the vrwc would assassinate obama, and then frame hillary as part of a conspiracy in their national media.

who would make for the best and most balanced ticket, if Obama has the top slot?

on a similar note- i'm guessing that the repug ticket will be either Romney/Guliani, or Guliani/Romney.

1. Joe Biden.
Hell, he could pull a Lincoln and have Chuck Hegel as his running mate. Hegel would certainly give him his ideas, which may conflict with Obama's but Hegel is also more concerned with the health of the country than the party.

6. ...but so anti women's health and women are more than 50% of the country's population.

I would consider Hegel as a vp choice to be an opportunity for a third party.

While I appreciate Hegel's stand on the Iraq situation, Bush's war in the middle east has resulted in massive losses of rights for women in Iraq, and has further endangered women in the surrounding countries by encouraging their religious extremists.

I don't want further encourage our religious extremists.

7. good points, no great points.
But Obama is the kind of guy who puts money where his mouth is.
Abe Lincoln brought in some of the top opponents into his administration. Only with his emancipation proclamation did any of them have serious disagreements, enough so that several resigned. Yeah, calling slaves freemen was THE issue that caused them to leave the cabinet.

12. Biden
I think Biden would help shore up the accusation of not having enough experience.

3. Richardson.
Eminently qualified to step in should something untimely happen to Obama (which is always a pre-requisite for VP), and he brings geographic balance.

And there's the whole ethnic-precedent thingie that'd be nice, but not really all that important, save for how it might flush out the GOPee racists who'd probably say some really ugly shit that'd backfire on them and only serve to help an Obama/Richardson ticket.

4. None of the Old Guard, please.
Except Dodd, maybe. Kucinich would of course be welcome, but would a Democratic Administration give him anything like Cheney's influence?

"Balance" is overrated. There's too much important work to be done for us to worry about standard expectations.

Then they couldn't say it was taking away from having a woman on the ticket. (I'm serious btw - I think she'd be great in politics)
