Even the DoD isn't using Micro$haft
From http://news.softpedia.com/news/U-S-Department-of-Defense-Uses-Open-Source-Software-70935.shtml

The U.S. Department of Defense will be holding the third Department of Defense Open IT Conference from 11th to 12th December in Washington, D.C. This demonstrates how widespread the adoption of open source software is and points out how to get the best results using this type of software.

The main goal of the conference is to show the advantages and issues surrounding the deployment of open technology development.

Brigadier General Nickolas G. Justice, a key person of the conference, notes: "Open source software is part of the integrated network fabric which connects and enables our command and control system to work effectively, as people’s lives depend on it. When we rolled into Baghdad, we did it using open source."

Even people running illegal wars don't trust Micro$haft products! Somewhere, Bill Gates must be fuming....

1. They may not be using Microsoft in Iraq...
...but they're using it everywhere else in the DoD.

The paper shufflers use Powerpoint and Excel. Sort of mirrors US business.

2. Vista- just say no!
Why does the adaptation of open source not surprise me? If one is needs both adaptability and reliability, then O.S. is the way to go. I seem to remember one of the branches of the military having a problem with Windoz.

(happy Linux user)

9. First I resent the fucking 'shill' comment, second I stand corrected on...
I went back and found that the contract I referred to is no longer active and that the USN has indeed adopted several Open Source applications and such. I stand corrected. MS, however is still far and away the OS of the government, not a good thing I agree.
