MILLIONS FUNNELED TO RURAL PREGNANCY CENTERS THAT PROMOTE RELIGION, FALSE INFORMATION
I wonder, how much of this money is funneled into Republican campaigns??

===============
http://www.citizensforethics.org/node/30458

14 Nov 2007 // Federally funded "pregnancy resource centers" throughout the country are receiving millions in taxpayer dollars despite promoting religious content and disseminating what critics say is misleading medical information.

Despite reservations from some in Congress, nearly $6 million in grants have been given to 21 pregnancy centers since the beginning of 2006, according to new data obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Many of these centers are receiving far more federal funding then they seemingly could need.

The Northern Hill Pregnancy Care Center in Spearfish, South Dakota, for example, has been granted more than $630,000 over three years despite seeing only 110 to 150 new clients per year. The Door of Hope Pregnancy Care Center in Madisonville, Kentucky, was given more than $300,000 in federal grants over the last two years, even though the entire female population of the town (all ages) is less than 11,000. First Choice Pregnancy Center in Texarkana, Texas, meanwhile, sees between 800 and 1,000 patients annually. For that, the center has been granted more than $1.3 million over three years - an average of approximately $500 per person per year.

......

"It is ridiculous that there is a ton of money going to these tiny towns," Melanie Sloan, Executive Director of CREW told The Huffington Post. "You have to wonder what that money is being spent on. .....

1. As long as the money isn't being wasted on SCHIP or Katrina
victims, all's right with the world in Bush's version of reality.

4. I keep forgetting the name of that fake "feminist" group.
Damn. Someone will remember. They're the ones who came up with this wonderful idea of pretending to offer care to pregnant women and giving them propaganda instead.

6. Maybe Feminists for Life?
Omg, I saw the founder on Washington Journal and she was just horrible. A purveyor of disinformation, rattling off fake statistics about how abortion can make you ill for life! It was just unbelievable.

They essentially set traps for young pregnant women. They lure them into their fake clinics and scare them into having babies. It's sick.

7. WHAT?? Ill for life?
OMG, how utterly stupid.

I tell you what - when abortion was illegal, I lost a very good friend who was butchered by a 'doc' in Detroit. Now THAT was an abortion that made her ill for the rest of her life - the last 72 hours of it. My heart swells up, even today, remembering.

Damn, I hate these pious all-knowing women who know jack-shit about what life is like for other women. These are the kind of women who had the funds and the strings pulled to have a D&C to take care of their little feminine situation.

:grr:

9. I'm so sorry, dmr.
And that's exactly what these people are doing. They pretend to offer medical care and they lure young women into those so called "clinics" and then scare and guilt trip them. Fascist @ssholes.

10. Was it the Independent Women's Forum...Carrie Lukas?
The one who likes to use the term "baby deniers" and preaches about women "owning" their responsibility? That gang is more insidious than all of the fundie groups lumped together...political front for the neo-cons to cement patriarchy into the female psyche by talking about "our duties as women" and re-instilling "a sense of shame" into today's (supposed) totally "liberated" woman.

8. There's a shortage of white newborn adoptable babies..
Anything that denies abortions to poor white kids, means another baby available to a "deserving Christian family"..

17. Some of those crisis pregnancy centers are (surprise surprise) connected to adoption agencies
I hear that if the girl is white, she gets extra 'encouragement' by the center to choose adoption over keeping the baby.

12. The Magdalene Laundries
I was an unmarried girl
I'd just turned twenty-seven
When they sent me to the sisters
For the way men looked at me
Branded as a jezebel
I knew I was not bound for Heaven
I'd be cast in shame
Into the Magdalene laundries

Most girls come here pregnant
Some by their own fathers
Bridget got that belly
By her parish priest
We're trying to get things white as snow
All of us woe-begotten-daughters
In the steaming stains
Of the Magdalene laundries

Prostitutes and destitutes
And temptresses like me
Fallen women
Sentenced into dreamless drudgery
Why do they call this heartless place
Our Lady of Charity?
Oh charity!

These bloodless brides of Jesus
If they had just once glimpsed their groom
Then they'd know and they'd drop the stones
Concealed behind their rosaries
They wilt the grass they walk upon
They leech the light out of a room
They'd like to drive us down the drain
At the Magdalene laundries

Peg O'Connell died today
She was a cheeky girl
A flirt
They just stuffed her in a hole!
Surely to God you'd think at least some bells should ring!
One day I'm going to die here too
And they'll plant me in the dirt
Like some lame bulb
That never blooms come any spring
Not any spring
No, not any spring
Not any spring

Kidding, but it sure seems like it :rofl:

How manyu other cases are there like this, funneling millions and hundreds of millions to those who funnel a kick-back right into RNC coffers?

16. Where is my country?
This is not my home, where women have no freedom.
This is the Bush Dark Age, and the only way out is to fight for every lost freedom once again.
Does it mean a fundamentalist and progressive struggle for power in this country?
~~~~ I am grieving for this country, we have lost a very beautiful dream, and I am sooooo sad. ~~~
19. This is just plain wrong.
Republicans got to complain about "their tax dollars" being spent on "welfare queens".
Well now it's my turn to complain about "my tax dollars" being spent on anti-choice garbage.
20. In Ohio they stole from a breast screening program
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 10:06 PM by OzarkDem
I just found out a while back that in our state - Ohio - federal money that was supposed to go to a program for breast & cervical cancer screening for uninsured women was actually going to an abstinence education program.
Thousands of uninsured women who needed screening went without so the fundies could teach kids abstinence. Criminal.
