Let's thank god for purity balls - Government funded, no less
ATLANTA (AP) — More than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year — the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease, federal health officials said Tuesday.
"A new U.S. record," said Dr. John M. Douglas Jr. of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The worst of these hideous affairs d'tete just happen to be in Colorado Springs, CO, former home of Ted Haggard, and current home of the US Air Force Academy, where evangelical officers try to twist the minds of cadets.
And don't forget that as of 2005, your tax dollars have gone to pay for these under the guise of being abstinence programs.

Abstinence policies in general do not work. Experts predicted, repeatedly, that it would lead to higher rates of STDs. Unfortunately, the proof is in the penis. And worse yet, many of those infected refuse medical treatment out of fear that parental units just might find out.

2. sick sick sick sick. if i was one of those little girls dressing up like a
miniature bride for daddy, going on this dream date with daddy and dancing with daddy, i'd reach a point in my development that would say: ewwww, what the fuck was i thinking?

4. seems almost like
a way to normalize incest or pedophilia doesn't it?
Wonder why so many right wingers and rabid fundies are caught in sex scandals often involving the most 'forbidden fruits'.

13. Not only normalizing incest and pedophilia
but a chance to get Daddy's little girl used the idea that she is HIS PROPERTY, until she gets married.

The very idea of these things just turns my stomach.

Damn, what century are we in?

7. Agreed.
This sort of sick soiree would turn me into a lesbian. These "purity balls" have a creepy overtone of "your p*ssy belongs to Daddy" that really freaks me out. :scared:

12. given their code, that is precisely what it means.
About a year ago, I attended a neighbor's son's wedding, and the other daddy's dearest was a pledged girl. puritanically speaking.

300 people, tuxes, lots of booze (my neighbor's doing, bless him) and a pervert playing the role of daddy in law.
he did not let sonny dance with his bride. Instead, he took his daughter on the floor, and physically mauled and pawed at her, form her ample chest to some really deliberate butt grabs. No, grab is too polite. If any of us did that in public, that would be considered a sexual attack.

the bride and groom, great kids really, ended up having to go through some serious therapy and counseling. there were strong indications that daddy had practiced with his special girl, getting her ready for her big night, when he would give her away.

the entire audience, including the 1/2 that was obviously ultra-conservative and christian, were so offended by daddy's roaming hands, that the party was - I can't describe it, but a failure is one word that comes to mind.

3. I didn't check your links, but all I can say about Purity Balls is that it
sounds like the title of a seventies porn film...

5. "The proof is in the penis" - I love it.
This abstinence only stuff has GOT to stop.
The program doesn't teach kids a THING about sex except that its dirty and bad.

I went to public school in New Jersey, and we had a fantastic sex ed program.
We were taught everything from the "mechanics" to the emotional and psychological effects, and it was because of this knowledge that I knew I wanted to wait until I was ready. Not married, mind you, but ready.

The only sex talk I got at home was when I was ten and my mom told me about my period, and then when I was 18 and she told me that we're Catholics, and we don't have sex until we're married.

Thank goodness for comprehensive sex ed! :)

9. What is not understood
It is so funny to me that many do not understand base instincts. As members of the animal kingdom we have 'em just like any other creature. Our strongest base instinct is, of course, survival. A very close second is perpetuating the species.

These instincts cannot be squashed or stopped no matter what.

Think about those who believe in their religion very deeply. Most believe in an afterlife, usually a heavenly one. One would think that someone who believed such a paradise awaited them would not fight death, right?

Seems no matter how deeply held the belief in a heavenly afterlife, all that is possible is done to keep them alive. Why?

Base instinct.
