2. Let's hope so.
Even a Hillary/Pelosi ticket could beat that.

assuming HC is who "we" run. Actually, if they run JB, they'll get a certain amount of backlash on that even if we don't run HC.

6. Hi, Blackhatjack. I would have responded sooner, but I was busy puking.
Romney is demonstrably creepy and Jeb is fiercely mediocre and corrupt.

What a frightening combo that would be anywhere near real power in Washington.

9. Well they just have to wear the monkey suits and follow NEOCON instructions...
Of course, that means someone has to pry Cheney out of his underground bunker.

14. If the Republicans had any sense (and of course that's a preposterous
notion), they'd nominate a John Danforth/Rob Portman ticket.

Danforth was supposedly a shortlisted veep choice for Dubya in 2000 but Uncle Dick decided that HE would be the best choice. Imagine that!

I don't see Danforth running for anything, but as electable tickets go, something like that one would be the GOP's best chance, IMO. As you point out, there's something dreadfully wrong about all of them at the moment, and their primary voters just aren't motivated.

7. It is not that far-fetched....
Thompson is already done.
Giuliani is destined to implode.
McCain does not have the money to compete.
That leaves Romney as the first tier Repub to become the Nominee.

There really is no one running right now who is prepared to step in as the VP running mate who would broaden the appeal of the Repub Party.

Jeb will be available.

Granted it would be like a 'Nightmare on Elm Street' sequel.

I don't see the Bush Family wanting to be out of power. ANd if anything happened to Romney, VP Jebbie would be PREZIDENT!

17. With a mighty 24%..make that a one-way ticket.
If the Democrats can't win in 2008 they should look for another line of work.

11. The very idea gives me a semi-erection
Come the next election, no one with the last name of Bush will be able to be get elected dog catcher in this country, no matter how much cheating goes on.

People with the last name of Bush will have to change the family's moniker to something like Skolnick or Cowznofski.

15. Actually, I think it is a possibility.
You seriously think Poppy Bush is ready to give up power that easily? He's been destroying the country for the last 30 years. Getting Jeb installed as VP would be his swan song.

.... give them a Bush to vote for, they'll vote for him!

Remember Almost-Supreme Court Justice Harriett Miers said George was the smartest man she ever met. THe other 24% cannot be any smarter than her!

20. McCain/Jeb, maybe
Jeb would not want a 2-termer to run with, and McCain would be the only ones who's likely to be a 1-termer..(Thompson might be too, but he'd be a 1-termer because he's a slacker)

McCain gets the $ he needs to stay in the race. McCain checks out early, and Jebbie steps in as President.

25. Bush family hedges its bets for 2008

Bush family hedges its bets for 2008
By Alexander Bolton
March 26, 2007

Much of Jeb’s inner circle has picked Romney. The list includes Sally Bradshaw, who served as Gov. Bush’s campaign manager in 1994 and 1998 and as his first gubernatorial chief of staff; Ann Herberger, who was the governor’s campaign finance director; and Mandy Fletcher, who recently headed Bush’s think tank, Foundation for Florida’s Future, and worked on his reelection. In addition, Alan Philp, Bush’s former policy director, is coordinating policy and issues for Romney.

Jeb Bush’s former lieutenant governor Toni Jennings, Al Cardenas, who served as Florida GOP chairman under Jeb, David Griffin, who headed Jeb’s second -term transition office and was the Florida Lottery Secretary, Sherri McVay, executive director of Jeb’s statewide advocacy council, and Kristy Campbell, the former governor’s press secretary, are all playing roles in Romney’s campaign.

27. While Romney will be tortured over his 'flip flops' I still believe he will be the Nominee...
I just don't see Rudy Giuliani making it through the Primaries without imploding.

Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy is not going to cut it with RW Fundamentalists. Besides Dobson will never endorse Rudy, and that will split the Fundie vote.

The Kerik prosecution will draq Rudy in to testify, almost guaranteed. The public transcripts of Rudy's prior testimony and the public documents will be incriminating. ANd the 911 meme will take a big hit as the truth emerges about how Rudy mismanaged the whole thing, and tried to take credit for 'saving the city.'

Mittens is very slick and very rich. I expect him to be the eventual Repub Nominee unless there is a brokered Repub Convention.
