Is the tail still trying to wag the dog?
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 01:43 AM by TahitiNut
Funny thing about the tail ... it's not on the fighting end of the dog. (It's most common function is to cover up where the shit comes from.) I'd be interested in hearing - Just where's the "center" of DU? Please, don't try to tell me about DU being "unusual" or "exceptional" or "not representative." That's hogwash. DU is merely more well-informed. At least most of it.

1. Oh! Where'd that come from?
I always score down in the 61.8% box but had no idea that was the majority here. Very interesting.

I was on a few months' sabbatical from DU until a week and a half ago. Thank you for compiling that info, TahitiNut.

7. Wowee
That demonstrates that we have some loudmouthed gatekeepers dominating the conversation in a way that I've suspected but never -seen- so clearly...

Ah, the joys of corporate duopoly politics.

Go Hillary!

8. Proudly part of the 61.8%
Some slight deviation (three points right on the left-libertarian scale), but still solidly part of the DU mainstream.

Kinda scary that makes me sort of extremist in some eyes. I wonder what the national norm is on this test, and how it compares globally?

10. "center"? even if it wanted to, there is no fulcrum atop which DU *could* balance...
vast tracts within DU are as afraid of the word 'center', as right-wing republicans are of 'socialism' by "Funny thing about the tail ... it's not on the fighting end of the dog." you mean of course 'not' the end that dispenses the rabies and chases cars while eating Milk Bones

:wow:

14. It's not the word 'center' that's been demonized and marginalized for the past 30 years.
"Centrism" is merely a label folks adopt either to "go along to get along" or because they're willing to 'compromise' when it's the other guy's ox that's getting gored.

I can't say I'm surprised by the findings. It is revealing though, how loudly the minority views ring out on DU.

Proud member of the 61.8% crowd...

And that's why this excess of "caution" is frustrating.

23. Similar values does NOT having the same opinions on strategy
As I see it, there are three basic strategic positions

1. Support the front runner as early as possible, so as to save money for a big anti-Repub media-based strategy.

2. Look among the frontrunners and pick the one closest to you politically.

3. Never stop asking for a pony, even if you'll eventually accept a kitten. (DK supporters are mainly in this category.)

The facts do matter, no matter how the 2.2% try to lie and distort them. Michael Moore, in his book/film tours, is fond of pointing out that in every poll on every question the people are far more progressive than the Democratic Party leadership. No surprise that this is also true on DU.

(edit - tried adding a rec. since the facts do matter, but I was too late.)
