2. Here in Phoenix they went Religious.
Maybe Satellite radio is the way to go. Or else, very selective listening on high speed internet.

7. Phoenix radio is strange.
And when you get in the middle of the desert, if you happen to be driving to Tuscon or Sierra Vista, all the stations you pick up out there are religious nutjob run.

There are a lot of megachurches that have sprang up out there as of late I have heard

11. But You've got 1480KPHX Nova M The Best of AAR plus Malloy
I stream nothing else. Hartmann, Randi, Malloy, all Live

and then Rachel and then John Elliot

Even the local guy there in Phoenix is cool, Jeff Farias

and you have it all over the air in Phoenix!

15. What will happen to Jon Elliott now? Will he stay here?
and not be broadcasting to "locals" any more? I guess he'll be able to identify more with Malloy now, being alone in a sea of red crap!

4. I was an Arbitron family this past week
fortunately, they let you count what you stream online & hear on satellite. Perhaps they're noticing a trend?

Sorry you guys lost San Diego, but I've never had progressive talk in my area, so I've had to invest in streaming & Sirius satellite radio.

5. I know someone who is in their late 50's...
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 08:08 PM by AX10
and has worked with in the media for part of his career, he believes that AM/FM radio stations will disappear within 20 years because of all the new technology that allows us to get the information we want when we want. We don't have to wait for some corporate manager to decide when we can hear what.

I also know someone, much younger, who has XM satellite radio and top of the line Internet access. They are considering dumping their cable entirely.

6.  I'm really sorry to hear that
There is nothing quite like live radio that you can get anywhere in your area . You can't cary XM or sirus or a computer in your pocket unless you have expensive cell phone internet service .

Besides losing another liberal radio show is bad enough news .

8. We lost ours after only about a year
To something called "Jalapeno oldies". (who tunes into AM to hear music anyway- it sounds terrible.) But before that they had cut down on the AAR programming for a lot of awful local stuff.

Only way possible to get Thom Hartmann live any more around here in my car, even if its only for an hour before they stupidly switch to Lynn Samuels.

At least on my ride home now, I can listen to Randi Rhodes on 3WT. Unless I leave early, then I can catch Thom Hartmann on 1260-WWRC.

19. Had the same problem when columbus lost it progressive station
Which caused me to switch over to the computer for internet radio stations and shows (as well as podcasts). And I haven't missed my radio since. Infact I think the internet radio is going to eventually overtake on-air rado within a decade. Mostly due to many people are becomming more disatified with what they hear now over the air.

But that's me.

23. It's true that eventually terrestrial radio will become displaced,
but that day isn't close to happening. Air America started up at a bad time in the industry. Media conglomeration bought most of the decent stations, the ones left were weak and overpriced. And yet, they are still around and kicking. This says something about the message they are presenting. They gain some stations, some really good, and lose some.

Nevertheless, Joe and Jane six-pack still gets its talk radio from the bigwigs, just like they get most of their news from network TV.

Also, Air America has been targeted by Republicans to shut down the message. This is what happened in Ohio. Not a single station left anymore. Even though the stations that flipped fell like a rock in the ratings.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=2245470

Hmm... Makes you wonder if he intentionally waited for the flip to be imminent and within hours/days so as not to get any groundswell of opposition to his propaganda efforts here! Nah! Of course not! :eyes:

Liberal radio seems to succeed (Steph Miller, Ed Shultz, Bernie Ward, etc.) when it's not associated with the AA sinking ship.

28. What part of targetted by local elites are you missing?
this has nothing to do with AAR... the ratings were very high... it was local elites who wanted to silence liberal voices
in a community that is actually quite liberal, but not represented.

I love it how people like to blame AAR for local conditions that have NOTHNG at all to do with what happened here

31. Welcome to DU
I finally folded and got myself an IPOD last week, (with BDAY money my parents sent)... and an IPOD base... and bought my sub to AAR... and will buy my sub to the Malloy show, as well as Steph...

The fact that I had to do that was bothersome... but I am listening to Hartmna's show from the morning

And will be able to listen to the rest of them
