Ironic Statement of the Night award.... the envelope please....
And the winner is:

George W. Bush, for his State of Disunion Speech regarding people's right to determine their own medical choices.

<wild applause>
Film clip of George W. Bush saying:

And in all we do, we must remember that the best healthcare decisions are made not by government and insurance companies, but by patients and their doctors.

This from a man who just pledged to do all he could to take medical decisions out of a woman's hands and let reactionary religious and governmental institutions make that decision for them. He has not only opposed abortion but also appointed extremists into positions of power who oppose all forms of birth control.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this statement will completes your recommended irony requirements at least through Winter.

Mr. bush, for this we present to you the coveted Finger Award. (uhm, You may recognize this.)

Here it is, right back at you.

4. That wins the ironic award
How about one for the misspoken?

When speaking about the patriots in Iraq defending their home from the invaders, bush said:

"Chaos is an allie, er, chaos is their allie."

Can't remember where it was said, but someone once said that bush speaks the truth when he misspeaks. Well, chaos in Iraq is his idea. The more chaos in Iraq, the better it is for Halliburton, et al.

6. Bush's comments
What he should have said - between patient and Dr. as long as they do what I want them to, and don't charge too much to my friends in the insurance companies by getting too many expensive diagnostic tests or treatments for their illnesses.

8. Doctors don't make any decisions, they provide expert advise
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 12:03 AM by RGBolen
and perform services based on the patient's decision. They don't make any decisions, some may give false information or withhold information to influence the patients decision but only the patient decides what medical services they purchase.

That one wins just for that.

11. Add to that....
This statement came right after he pimped his initiative to "increase insurance coverage."

Not medical care, insurance coverage. Sure, he mentioned the problem, but his solution sucks. We don't need more insurance coverage, we need medical care.
