Latest Zogby poll says 52% of Americans want to bomb Iran?
Who do these idiots survey? I wish they would contact me sometime, but that will never happen. Don't people understand that if we bomb Iran, it will be an excuse for Russia to come after us? I feel like I'm living in a really bad movie. Where is Harrison Ford when I need him?

2.  I think Zogby selects who they send polls to
I'm signed up with Zogby and while I do get some of their polls, I don't get all of them. I believe that they are selecting particular groups because of how they will reply.

5. How Was The Question Framed???
Always look at the question and how its worded to get a better insight into a poll...or, cherry pick what you want and skew it to support a different opinion.

I suspect the question was along the lines of "if Iran developed a nuclear weapon, should the US bomb"...the qualifier being that the weapon had already been developed...similar to the boogie man used with the infamous "Mushroom Cloud" in the run-up to the Iraq war.

I find this curious simply as it looks like a test balloon to see the threshold of public support on any military action against Iran. The concept of an "imminent threat" as opposed to a proposed one. Also, I'd like to see how this plays against the ongoing regime propaganda of blaming Iran for everything from arming both sides in Iraq to tracking mud across crashcart's carpeting.

I signed up and they email me.

And no, I am not one of the people who said it's okay to bomb Iran.

7. I seriously doubt it. Or they were talking to a very narrow and
select group of 'Americans'.

8. I find that virtually impossible to believe....
They are either outright lying...or they polled a predetermined group that would give the results they wanted to hear, a not unheard of practice.

Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 08:39 AM by melody
Not once. If Zogby is the source of this, they're spinning data from a poorly framed question.
The question itself is more important than the answer with surveys.

18. F.Y.I. you can see the poll questions here - - and the MOE is 3.2
I personally don't doubt the results - - the idea that bombing Iran to stop them from developing nukes is all over the MSM, but the dissenting views are only available online. This has been the case for the last fifteen years, and as long as we (the progressive movement) refuse to invest in real message infrastructure, we will always loose policy arguments.

Here's the poll:

19. There are large pockets of ignorant people in this country, beyond arrogant

Let's see.

Basically, these know nothings want to bomb a nation they know nothing about...for a threat they BELIEVE just MIGHT exist.

These people are so scary.

20. I looked up Zogby's sampling size for political affiliations on this poll.
31.9% were conservative, 30.4% were moderates, 16.5% were liberals, 9.1% were progressives (not sure of the difference between liberals and progressives) 6.9% were very conservative, 2.6% were libert and 2.6% had not identified their affiliation.

It was my understanding that the number of people who identify themselves as conservative had seriously declined in the last two years (at least by 10%), yet Zogby still polls the largest sample as conservatives.

So about 26% were on the left and 41% were on the right (I consider libertarians conservatives who want to smoke pot and have sex).

I wonder if their sampling is skewed.

As a current resident of Alabama, I can promise that you could conduct any survey like that here and you'd get an overwhelming number of people who still love W. and just following the Right's marching orders.
