1. how stupid is that?
i knew a man who died of pneumonia in new orleans, in the french quarter...in july so it was only, i dunno, about 90 degrees and 100 percent humidity

colds, flu, pneumonia are not caused by cold weather, they are proven to be caused by viruses, and this has been known to pretty much everyone for a VERY long time

with Al Gore getting the Nobel prize. So it's on to Plan B--find some advantages to it instead of striving to get rid of it.

6. You heard it wrong
What people are talking about is that 10 times as many people die from 'cold', as in exposure to cold, than heat deaths. Like that last heat wave in europe that killed all those, mostly old, people. Ten times that many died from cold exposure.

So what they're saying is that if the temperatures go up more people might die from heat exposure, less people will die from cold exposure.

It comes from that new book by that swedish guy. some skeptical environmentalist thing.

9. Has that Swedish guy ever heard of arthropod-borne diseases?
'Cause we're gonna see a hell of a lot more of THOSE with global warming. I suppose some folks will see it as a good thing......

11. Yeah
I think the guy means well, but he's doing more harm than good. He's not an apologist, he says warming is happening and that I think he also says humans are responsible.

He's just saying that we're only hearing about the bad things that will happen, like all the polar bears dying, rather than the good stuff, like a northern sea passage cutting the cost of goods or whatever.

I think it's important to admit that there is a bigger picture, but he does it slightly irresponsibly, by showing the so called 'good' things that might happen. It helps negate the reality of a situation which could cause entire places like Florida and Bangladesh to dissapear entirely. It's an example of selective truth being used to blind people to the big picture. It's Spin.

17. Not to mention the fact
That with fuel prices, many cannot AFFORD heat and MANY will die because of that.
They republicans will make sure this dire prediction comes true this winter, if only to be able to say "I told you so".

8. Well I believe the price of buying a house will drop dramatically
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 12:44 PM by Uncle Joe
as humanity dies off and we have all these empty homes sitting around with nobody to live in them. Getting the financing will be the bummer as there will be nobody to work at the mortgage companies. I remember that old science fiction movie with Charlton Heston as one of just a handful of survivors in New York City and they had the entire place to them selves, just think of all the hidden benefits of global warming!
