We live in N. Poway, it will probably be at least 2 days before we can go home and see what is left if anything.

This is surreal - 8 fires all around, my city is in flames.

I live up in Temecula and my family lives in the San Pasqual valley. My parents lost their barn and their complete avocado grove (their retirement) they still have their house but the neighbors all around them lost everything (burnt to the ground). I have their car (full of papers and photographs) and animals staying with me, as they were called to evacuate at 3:30 this morning. I have family in camp pendleton and they are suppose to evacuate tonight (my neice and her baby and husband). Ai ya ya. So many people we know are just displaced and have no idea whether their homes are still standing.

My cousin is a volunteer firefighter and he rescued an elderly couple today who were in trapped in their swimming pool in their pajamas watching their house of forty years burn to the ground. He has been driving through the back roads (he has a 4x4) looking for people that are trapped. He said the elderly couple were so grateful and he took them home to his house and will take care of these folks until they can make more permanent arrangements. My cousin is a good guy.

People everywhere are just wanting to help their fellow neighbors.

and well over 100,000 acres burned. Two big fires that started in Potrero and Ramona have now merged.

We are watching smoke over a mountaintop from our home in La Mesa (Mt Helix); these fires have burned through from back country areas into the heart of SD's urban areas and wealthiest neighborhoods - Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, all in flames. Evacuations even in Del mar and Solana Beach, all the way to the sea. In the South, Otay is being evacuated tonight. Scripps Ranch, Escondido, all affected. Just about everywher in East County has evacuations except for El Cajon, La Mesa and Santee. Entire towns burning in the back country areas. Hospitals closed, airport clogged with people desperate to get out.

"It's like watching Armageddon," one fire survivor told me tonight.

144. Folks, here's a trick to check on whether your house is alright!...

Just have an answering machine answering your phone line.

Now if it does answer it might not necessarily mean that your house is undamaged, but it likely means that you haven't lost everything.

Then again, if it doesn't answer, it also might not mean the worst too, if phone lines are down.

But as long as your voicemail answers, you can get a little comfort that things are still relatively OK at your house. Have been doing that for my Mom's place a number of times this evening.

My best friend's daughter & her husband just...JUST...moved there for a job. The moving van with their belongings was delayed a day, and had to be re-routed, so all of their things are safe. Whew! Close call for them & their 8-year-old twin boys. The rental house they had rented when the hubby flew in 3 weeks ago, is in the middle of the fire, but the fire started when the family was en route, so they never even arrived.

So many people are affected by this.

All your messages have meant alot to me and I thank all of you.

Last night we learned that our house is probably ok - fire came up to 50 feet of the house and stopped. We also learned that the fire was 0% controlled - so who knows today.

We are well, a little bit in shock. Listening to the news, trying to find out whatever we can.

We are sad and scared for our city.

Mostly, we are grateful for our family and friends who are all ok.

Our cat, who is 16 years old is coping better then I thought she would.

I have posted so much info here about what has happened in this country, the atrocities, the lies, the difficulties.

I am learning today that few things are really important, love, freedom, life - I am shaking as I write this because I am so very grateful that I have so very much, more then I have realized.

I will try to write more later.
