When using a touchscreen voting machine, how do you write in a candidate?
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 08:17 AM by Toots
If a person you wish to vote for (Al Gore) is not on the ballot how do you write in their name? I have never used one of those machines but I think this next election they are going to be the machine we have to use..Is it possible to write in a person? On edit, before everyone jumps all over me for giving my vote to the Republicans I am basically talking about the Primaries...

1. Maybe your vote will count since it wont be thrown out as a "D" N/T

2. Bring your own piece of paper
write his name on it, and deposit the paper in the circular receptacle outside the polling place.

3. But seriously, folks: Your best bet is to ask a pollworker.
Some machines will bring up a touch-screen keyboard, some will notify the pollworker, some will automatically deliver a 25,000-volt shock to whoever selects "Write-In".

(Hey, I was serious for almost a whole sentence! When a donkey flies, you don't blame him because he isn't up there that long, right? Right? :spank: )

5. If I recall correctly...
...at least some machines have a keyboard for write-ins...I seem to recall that last election cycle one republican with a Loooong name was almost impossibly hard to enter...anyone else recall this?

6. The Diebold Accuvote TS has a "write in" option
And then displays a virtual keyboard on the touch screen that allows you to tap in the characters of the write-in candidate's name. I don't know how the other machines in use account for write-ins. Be sure to ask the workers at your polling place on election day before you vote and they will be more than happy to show you how to do it.

7. Ask for a paper ballot. Hell, do that anyway, even if you're not writing in a name

8. They all have touchscreen keyboards. for write-ins
That's the least of the things to worry about when it comes to touchscreen voting.
