Vatican Official Insists He's Not Gay

VATICAN CITY — A Vatican official suspended after being caught on hidden camera making advances to a young man said in an interview published Sunday that he is not gay and was only pretending to be gay as part of his work.

In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico said he frequented online gay chat rooms and met with gay men as part of his work as a psychoanalyst. He said that he pretended to be gay in order to gather information about "those who damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."

Vatican teaching holds that homosexual activity is a sin.

"It's all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work," La Repubblica quoted Stenico as saying.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Saturday that the monsignor had been suspended pending a Vatican investigation. Stenico is a top official in the Vatican's Congregation of the Clergy.

5. I don't trust AP at all. So I don't know about this. I think we should be wary of

all AP stories. I mean, at least in translation, he sounds like Albert Gonzales--full of whiny self-justification. We've become very jaded by the horrendous crimes we have seen this gang in the White House commit. And they just say, "What, me"" and that's an end of it. It boggles the mind. And the Catholic Church, of course, has been so-o-o-o bad, in its boys' club coverups--and 2,000 years of coverup on what happened to the REAL Christians--that a story like this makes you PRESUME that the guy is guilty. And guilty of WHAT?--is another question. (How old was the "young man"?) I'm skeptical and suspicious. AP is isn't just unreliable--it is a fascist disinformation tool. So it could be that this is a really good guy, and they're "getting" him for some reason. Beware of blackmail and other skulduggery. Try to assume innocence until proven guilty.
